I think Opera is quite secure.

kektex 07-02-2006 11:52 PM

Opera rocks...its much better than FF.
The only thing I miss about FF are some extensions.

Doctor Dre 07-02-2006 11:56 PM

Yeah it happened to me before too.

MyNameIsNobody 07-03-2006 12:02 AM

I had that happen as well once... that was why I went out and look for a plugin that saves your bookmarks to a folder, so if it might crash you still have all your bookmarks etc

edit; here you go: http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/

CamsLord 07-03-2006 12:16 AM

firefox is hoggin up my resources, no clue why

When your bookmarks got deleted, did your browser hang up? Did it close normally?

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-03-2006 12:19 AM

never had a problem with firefox

Relish XXX 07-03-2006 12:21 AM

It is often hyped as being "faster" than IE, any truth to this?

madawgz 07-03-2006 12:24 AM

thats happened to me before, many times....ive learned to live with it...

but you should really remember the sites you visit mentally... :)

Itchy 07-03-2006 12:33 AM

Firefox 1.5 now makes its own backups of your bookmarks

hummm might be time to update mine

kaori 07-03-2006 12:41 AM

I definitely prefer opera..
definitely find it faster, and prefer the keyboard browsing and zoom..

no extensions though... but has widgets now..

KRL 07-03-2006 12:49 AM

Firefox saves backups of your bookmarks automatically.

You can also just open Bookmark Manager and export a copy of your bookmarks and save that file in a safe place as an added backup.

If you take the time to learn the product's features you wouldn't have a problem.

Firefox is the best browser on the Net. I've tried Opera also but wasn't impressed. I like all the extensions for Firefox so you can customize your browser with the exact features you like.

Plus Firefox has two nifty extension for faster porn surfing. Save Image In Folder lets you just double click any image and it automatically saves it in your pics folder or any other folder you preset. Thumbs automatically creates image galleries from a page of text links like on The Hun so you can quickly see the first image on all the gallery links.

Also a great free alternative to Microsoft Office is http://www.OpenOffice.org.
Version 2.03 just came out. It rocks!

Safari does it for me... kickass browser!

exactly everyone who bashes firefox, just installs it and doesn't do anything else... they don't see the full potential to firefox... default installation is barebones and doesn't have much... its the extensions and customization that makes it so great... as long as it keeps being updated and evolving with the demands of surfing, i won't use anything else :thumbsup

because of firefox, i have uninstalled 3 20+mb programs and used 20+kb extensions for firefox in their place... if someone could recreate photoshop and dreamweaver as an firefox extension, i'd be set on all my programs... no need for anything else... just a few good firefox extensions and my computer is equipped with every program needed

Yes it does appear faster I have several browsers installed its always a good idea when coding and designing to check your stuff in more than one browser.
To save your bookmarks got to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File > Export.
If you lose your bookmarks and this usually happens right before a new update is released I dont know why I bitch on their forums about it all the time but to restore your bookmarks go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File > Import > From File > And point it to where you saved your bookmarks when you exported them.

Yeh really. It takes about 3 seconds to make an extra backup. And the guy blames the product.

:upsidedow

goldrush 07-03-2006 01:52 AM

Goddamn interweb noobs.

woj 07-03-2006 02:46 AM

Everything is smooth here, except in the newest build of firefox 2.0 it only displays 8 tabs per FF window... Anyone know how to make it display unlimited number of tabs?

tgpmakers 07-03-2006 03:12 AM

Get rid of Windows use Linux instead i've had ZERO problems with firefox in linux.

mOrrI 07-03-2006 03:21 AM

Well u must do wonders with FF to do that kind of shit :D

There's nothing wrong with FireFox you just need an IQ of at least 10 to be able
to use it :winkwink:

babsy 07-03-2006 03:32 AM

As other people have mentioned, one of the great things about Firefox is its extensions. One of the points overlooked, however, is that Opera supports its own extension format just fine, but with a far smaller developer community contributing, it just doesn't have the depth behind it. Firefox has extensions for fuckin' EVERYTHING. I couldn't live a single day without the Web Developer extension. Seriously, before having this, I don't know how I managed to not go bugfuck insane working on HTML design. It is without a doubt the most powerful fucking tool imaginable to a developer, it's entirely free, and one of THOUSANDS of extensions in the repository.

I can't sing the praises of Firefox highly enough. No piece of software is 100% bug free, and there has been a couple of times where it has flat out just crashed on me, but when IE used to go down, it'd take explorer with it - at least FF has the grace to crash cleanly.

Nothing wrong with switching to Opera,

Nothing wrong with backing up important data either.

Violetta 07-03-2006 04:09 AM

You will never regret changing to Opera! It is best! And I have used them all!

AtlantisCash 07-03-2006 04:23 AM

i love "iE!s holes better lol :)

Sarah_Jayne 07-03-2006 04:25 AM

I didn't like Opera as much as FF. Though either one is heaps better than IE. I have hated IE ever since I 'had' to make the switch from Netscape.

StuartD 07-03-2006 04:26 AM

Never had Firefox lose any bookmarks or anything for me.

baX 07-03-2006 04:28 AM

Go to Bookmarks --> Manage Bookmarks... --> File --> Export and save it as a HTML file
Later you can import it the same way.
That's how I do it.

EdgeXXX 07-03-2006 04:42 AM

I have used FF for a long time and I have never had any problems with it. Also, I have a ton of extensions installed on it (and have tweaked the about:config settings to really open up the speed) and I haven't noticed it "hogging resources" at all. Granted, even my "smaller" system is a powerhouse, but if you think if you think FF is hogging your your systems resources, maybe it's time for some of you to think about upgrading your systems. Just my .02

ixesha 07-03-2006 06:34 AM

Opera has a smaller memory footprint for the same features as firefox.

Tdog 07-03-2006 06:45 AM

Firefox rocks. I never have to worry about infections when surfing around.

KRL 07-03-2006 06:46 AM

How can you be a webmaster and not have a backup of your bookmarks?

Come on dudes WTF??????
