advice from the Veterans
Hello,
I am a few weeks away from launching my first website, and I wanted to ask some advice from the veteran webmasters on this board. I have 2500 of my own pics. What's the best way to handle naming them now, so I can easily track what photo is getting the most attention down the road. Also... What is the easiest way to get my web addy stamped on each of the photos with out me having to use Photoshop on each freakin one? Finally...any pre launch necessaties that I need to have in place, like password swapping prevention, Site harvesting prevention... ...Basically, anything that I'll kick myself later for not knowing to ask now. Thanks for any and all assistance. EA |
Hey evilal,
You can get photoshop to add your blurb to all your image with only a few minutes of work. What you do is go to the Actions pallette and create a new action. From that point on anything you do will be recorded. So, copy your logo onto the image, or whatever then hit the stop button on the action pallette. Now go to File->Automate. You can pick a directory and photoshop will preform your action on every image in it.. Also, once you get into thousands of files, you might consider serving them from a database. Then you won't have to worry about intelligable file names... mute:thumbsup |
Thanks for the tip...I'll give it a go.

Thanks for the tip on the pennywise...and Mute...I do appreciate the photoshop advise, havn't had a chance to test it, but it's a step in the right direction. Anyone know about harvesting programs such as Go!zilla, SiteRipper, and DA Pro...and hoW to prevent their use? |

I made custom content managers using php for several people in the past. I would recomend you use something like that, it is a lot better than doing everything manually. After you have the script up you will just need to edit 1 template file instead of hundreds, additionally it will tell you which pictures are the most popular and allow you to sort and categorize your site a lot better and quicker, for example if you want to list your top 10 most popular galleries you can find that out in a second instead of looking through tons of log files.
