Has Anyone ever eaten SPAM? What does it taste like?
This strangely processed meat. (Is it even meat?)
From the looks of it, it resembles cat food. :Oh crap Not sure if I should give it a try. So, has anyone ever tried it? I know there are a lot of sickos here, so I think I have a good chance of finding someone. http://www.dicofr.com/def2/image/spam.gif |
Yes, I have had it years and years ago as a kid.
Fried. Most times with fried eggs. I don't remember the taste, but I don't recall thinking it was bad either. |
I've eaten plenty of the Finnish equivalent in the army.
|
It's good backpacking food.
|
it tastes like penis enlargement pills.
|
It has a LOT of flavor. You either like it or you hate it.
I get in the mood to eat some about once every 10 years. By contrast, I get in the mood for liver and onions about once a year... |

Are you serious?

I used to eat it as a kid. Put it on a bread with cheese and mustard, doesn’t taste that bad. The disgusting part is when you open the can. It’s preserved with a greasy gel that you will want to wipe off before consuming.

But now I really wonder if penis enlargement pills taste like liver. :1orglaugh |

many times...mac and cheese and spam was a regular meal when I was very young. It tastes like spam..not really like another meat. My nana makes a coating out of ritz crackers and then does it in a pan until they coating is golden. Very downmarket but we liked it. My grandfater on the other hand refused to eat it because he had eaten it so much in the war when he was a soldier that he got sick thinking about it.
I haven't had spam in years though. |
its minging realyl salty
|
Slice it thin, fry it up with some onions and then a layer of cheese.
We ate it like that in the army all the time.Wash it down with a large glass of beer and everything is good. |
The best tasting processed meat of all time is:

Spam is one of Steve Martin's comedic secrets -- Stick a slice in each shoe you wear.
You'll feel funny all day. :D |
I had it a lot as a kid. Mostly as a breakfast food fried up and served with eggs just as you would eat bacon or sausage. I don't remember it being particularly bad, but I can't say its something I'd voluntarily eat now.
|
it tastes annoying!
|
From my understanding, during he world wars meat was not available in Hawaii and spam actually became a delicacy.

Now...if that is the kind of pork roll you see a lot around PA and NJ then that is something else I grew up with. It is REALLY not a health food but people put it between a bun for a pork roll sandwich....with the pork roll being hot. You can get pork roll sandwiches at the Jersey shore from the food stalls. I liked them but it was really a regional thing I haven't seen many other places. |
Tastes like well spam.
BTW still a very popular meat product in many areas. Specially in hawaii. |
Of course you can tell who is from the Philly area and who isn't by how they react to the word 'Scrapple'.
|
May as well eat pig stomach.
|
ahhh good fried spam I havnt had that since I was a kid
Ellisa has gone off to Curacau I should go get some while she is gone |

You can chop it up and mix it with some potatos and onions. Cook it in a cast iron skillet. Makes a pretty decent spam hash. Good camping food.

I don't remember eating it much as a kid, but I do remember that slimy gel... ewwwwwww |

I love pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches. You can buy Taylor Pork roll at most supermarkets in the south. Spam is ok, I haven't had it in ten years. But scrapple is just fucking disgusting. Spam is the shit they will not put in hot dogs, and scrapple is the shit they will not put in spam. So scrapple must be the shit they sweep up off the floor at the slaughterhouse. |

I have to admit to liking scrapple..especially with a little bit of syrup. It is no worse than a hotdog. Of course since I live in the UK so I have it maybe once a year when I go back home. Nobody over here has even hard of pork roll like that. I didn't live that far from the Hatfield meat plant so all those products were everywhere. It is probably a good thing for the diet I don't live back home. |

I got my dad a $100 Wawa gift card for his birthday so he doesn't have to pay for his daily coffee for a while. |
Used to eat it a lot when I was a kid. Bought a can a few months ago since I haven't had it for about 10 years or so. I'm good for another 10 years. :)

Scene: A cafe. One table is occupied by a group of Vikings wearing horned helmets. Whenever the word "spam" is repeated, they begin singing and/or chanting. A man and his wife enter. The man is played by Eric Idle, the wife is played by Graham Chapman (in drag), and the waitress is played by Terry Jones, also in drag.
Man: You sit here, dear. Wife: All right. Man: Morning! Waitress: Morning! Man: Well, what've you got? Waitress: Well, there's egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam; Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... Waitress: ...spam spam spam egg and spam; spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam... Vikings: Spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Waitress: ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam. Wife: Have you got anything without spam? Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it. Wife: I don't want ANY spam! Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage? Wife: THAT'S got spam in it! Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it? Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... (Crescendo through next few lines...) Wife: Could you do the egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam then? Waitress: Urgghh! Wife: What do you mean 'Urgghh'? I don't like spam! Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Waitress: Shut up! Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Waitress: Shut up! (Vikings stop) Bloody Vikings! You can't have egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam. Wife: I don't like spam! Man: Sshh, dear, don't cause a fuss. I'll have your spam. I love it. I'm having spam spam spam spam spam spam spam beaked beans spam spam spam and spam! Vikings: Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Waitress: Shut up!! Baked beans are off. Man: Well could I have her spam instead of the baked beans then? Waitress: You mean spam spam spam spam spam spam... (but it is too late and the Vikings drown her words) Vikings: Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam. Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Spam spam spam spam! Spam song. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...93981990713675 Enjoy. |

I think I did when I was child. Don't remember the taste though.
|
it's not bad. i used to love it with mac n cheese when i was a kid. haven't had it in probably 10 years though now.
|
Oh it's disgusting! My grandma (who raised me) used to cook it once every couple of weeks, sliced and fried. Oh and mustard on the side, like it was ham. One of the major downsides of being poor is eating freaky food. I never could get over the mushy consistency, ew it's giving me the shivers just thinking about it :helpme
|
One slice is enough for me or I feel like i just ate a can of monosodium glutamate
|
I love that. I want it thickly slice and slightly fried. :pimp
|
There's no money in Spam!
As of 1997, over 5 billion tins had been sold worldwide! |
its just ham
|
I have it fried and sliced it in cubes then cooked it with eggs :)
|
dont think we get it in the uk..
|
It's fashioned with a thin layer of clear, lube-like jelly, has the texture of fine cat food, is heavily salted and scratches my sophisticated palate right where it itches.
