Xbox 360 Fall Update Tomorrow

Microsoft has released a list of more than 85 enhancements included in the next dashboard revamp.

Xbox 360 owners will soon be getting another boost to the functionality of their beloved console. Starting tomorrow, October 31, a free Fall System Update will be downloadable from Xbox Live. You won't need a disc or a hard drive to take advantage of this download, in fact, you can get it even if you don't have an Xbox Live account. Just hook up your system to a broadband Internet connection and it'll get the update automatically.

There are more than 85 enhancements included in the Fall System Update, with some of the biggest new features focused on expanded High Definition support and video playback tweaks. The update will enable 1080p output from the Xbox 360 for both game and video content. It will also allow the Xbox 360 to stream WMV video from a Windows PC running Media Player 11 or Windows Media Connect. Enhancements will also be made to Xbox Live Arcade, such as new sorting options to make games easier to find, the ability to automatically download newly released Xbox Live Arcade trial games on the day of their release, and a streamlined "Play Now" feature.

Support for upcoming Microsoft accessories, such as the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel, HD DVD Player, and Zune MP3 player, are also included in the update. You can see a complete list of all 85 features on the official Xbox 360 website.

Since I don't have HD I can't really notice much difference in the dashboard. The only thing I can really see that has changed is the marketplace and arcade. A friend of mine mentioned that populating a server list in GRAW is a lot faster. I haven't played GRAW online yet today so I don't know if that's true or not.

Updates are ok. I can't get my Xbox 360 to talk to my PC with Windows Media Player 11 though. I want to stream shit to my Xbox, but I can't. And their support staff wasn't helpful. Go figure.

Do you have this up and running on your PC?

Once that's running it's all pretty easy.

I plan a separate room for my xbox in the new house, TV in one room and xbox in the other, I hope I won't hear its noice then. Because other than that it rocks. :)

I still dont have one! :(

Looks like I'm gonna have to blow another $50 for the VGA cable now that it does 1080P.

That way it can double as an upconverting DVD player. Plus I don't think my TV handles 1080P over component, only over VGA and HDMI.
