Attention Breeders: NFL Will Sue You For Copyright Violation If You Watch on +55" TV

NFL says that throwing a Super Bowl Party that features the game being displayed on a TV greater than 55" is a violation of copyright law. They will getters you!

Apparently they been reading: "A Dummy's Guide to suing your own customers for enjoying your product" by the RIAA.

Churches in Indiana and across the country are scrapping traditional Super Bowl viewing parties in wake of the NFL’s stance that mass viewings of the game on big screen TV’s would violate copyright law.

Maybe it doesn't count if it's an HD TV? Nah I'm going down for this too it seems.

From MSNBC:

Quote:

Initially, the league objected to the church's plan to charge a fee to attend and that the church used the license-protected words "Super Bowl" in its promotions.

Pastor John D. Newland said he told the NFL his church would not charge anyone and that it would drop the use of the forbidden words.

But the NFL objected to the church's plans to use a projector to show the game, saying the law limits it to one TV no bigger than 55 inches.

sumphatpimp 02-02-2007 10:29 AM

imbelciles whose employees (nfl players) who go down for drugs, steroids, drunk driving and weapons violations shouldn't thrown stones.

the nfl has too many problems of its own to be slinging shit.
only makes them look like fools.

"Aiello said the league has a longstanding policy against ?mass out-of-home viewings? of the Super Bowl, even if the hosts don?t charge admission. The NFL makes an exception to that, however, for sports bars that show televised sports on a regular basis."

They don't care what you do in your own home, they just don't want organizations profiting from their product without getting a piece of the pie. That I don't see anything wrong with...especially considering they give most bars a pass and appear to be targeting church's. :winkwink:

Tylo 02-02-2007 10:43 AM

bonkerz2007 02-02-2007 10:43 AM

Nookster 02-02-2007 10:48 AM

You're not teh greatest media spinner BA. That is law and has been around for centuries...and it's not only for screens in excess of 55"...it's illegal to charge access to watch anything, regardless of the size of your tv unless you own the copyrights for it or have written consent.

The MSNBC article said the NFL doesn't care if someone charges or not:

Quote:

Pastor John D. Newland said he told the NFL his church would not charge anyone and that it would drop the use of the forbidden words.

Personally, in this day and age of HDTV, the old 55" rule seems kind of asinine don't you think?

wyldblyss 02-02-2007 10:54 AM

I think it is just plain silly. I could see going after people who charge admission to profit by it. But all the guys getting together for a superbowl on a big screen tv? Oh brother.
