Commonly available chocolate in the UK isn't much better than chocolate in the US. Manufacturers in both countries skimp on the ingredients which make "chocolate", chocolate.

You can, with a deep wallet and if you are suitably located, go to a store like Selfridges and buy a wide range of imports (IMO Dutch and Swiss are the best). One of the perks I used to enjoy as a regular customer there was getting an invite a couple of times a year to a chocoholics evening. Perhaps a dozen international manufacturers showcased their best products and for a couple of hours or until you got sick, you could stroll around gorging yourself - completely for free - on whatever caught your eye :)

ayne468 02-24-2007 11:48 PM

Yea either buy some swiss, or Green and Blacks organic isn't bad. You can get it form most supermarkets.

Pimpin_J 02-25-2007 03:14 AM

MILKA lol

gangbangjoe 02-25-2007 03:19 AM

switzerland owns every country when it comes to chocolate

Vendot 02-25-2007 03:55 AM

are you kidding? Cadbury has the best chocolate in the world.

Also look at Yorkie, Galaxy, Ripple

DutchTeenCash 02-25-2007 04:17 AM

it all depends what kinda choc you like.

if youre into milkchoc thats really smooth lotsa milk lil cacoa then cadbury milka etc is fine cause they use a blend of beans so the smooth taste is always there. Its choc you grab on your way out to work or so, theres a reason why cadbury has all these machines in the London sub.

if youre a choclover and like 99% pure or exotic tastes then there are many - small - brands that are a lot better, they use beans from Venezuela, google it and youll see why I know and many dutchies: we produce a shitload of choclate.

Plus Im close to belgium, so all the gourmet chocs are right around my corner. If you wanna look at some gourmet stuff:

http://www.neuhaus.be
http://www.leonidas.com
http://www.godiva.com

this is prolly the top 3 best known and can be bought all over the world

Oh and lindt is bad at all - its wellknown cause they sell it on every airport, its swiss and pretty good as well, its more pure choc as in no filling : http://www.lindt.com

MartiniGirl 02-25-2007 04:25 AM

Belgium chocolate is the best! :)

quantum-x 02-25-2007 10:38 AM

Best chocolate in the UK is the swiss chocolate you imported.

Hey I will give you a good and very cheap tip. If there is a Lidl store near you they sell these big bags of Kinder chokobons (not sure of the exact name but its something like that). Those are cheap and very cheerful.

Of the big three British brands (Cadbury, Mars and Rowntrees) I like Mars chocolate best, specifically Galaxy and Galaxy Ripple. Lately the chocosnobs seem to be going for Green and Blacks but Im not a big fan as its too strong, and I like the cheapo ones better.

And before anyone picks me up on the 3 British brands, I know they arent necessarily British anymore, but to me they are.

donborno 02-25-2007 11:32 AM

Try Green&Black's

I used to work for a chocolate store and I prefer Italian chocolate - Domori, Slitti, Maglio,...

craigant01 02-25-2007 11:36 AM

Kinder Maxi fuck me gorgeous 19p for 1!!!!!!!!!!

cheekycherry 02-25-2007 11:37 AM

Forget what is said in this thread... If you want high quality keenly priced chocolate then Cadburys is the mutz nutz. You can get it EVERYWHERE.

This is not a premium brand as such, it's just our standard but very nice chocolate. Go for just a normal dairy milk bar to try it. yum.

cheekycherry 02-25-2007 11:37 AM

Don't bother with anything Nestle. Tastes like dog shit.

cheekycherry 02-25-2007 11:38 AM

Yorkies should be put back in the sewers where they were found... Nasty shit.

Lemme tell you something

Ive been in many production plants and theres something more ppl know already : Aldi and Lidl have the Castle choclate bars in their stores. These come from the same production plant as the company that supplies the choc for the Magnum icecreams : Callebaut. Noone outside Belgium knows Callebaut - theyre the supplier for hq belgium chocs and icecream.

So if you wanna get a great deal, buy them youll be surprised how good that choc is.

Lee 02-25-2007 02:34 PM

Ya, that particular one is made by Ferrero and its lovely.

LukieD 02-25-2007 02:35 PM

Cadbury is probably the worst mass manufactured junk made from mostly vegetable oil or some shit. If you want real chocolate buy it from a local specialist shop or farmers market. Near me theres a chocolatier at a market that has won numerous awards. Once you try that you don't think of Cadburys as chocolate anymore.
