If statics showed that only 50% of parachutes opened then skydiving would likely be illegal to begin with.

Skydiving is the best sport ever created. The adrenaline rush can't be matched by anything else. You haven't lived until you've free fallen 10,000 feet, or hung off the wing of an airplane 1500 feet. That being said, 50/50 is just too low of odds :(
