clicked on a site that killed my pc

Last night while checking some trades, I went to one of my new trades and clicked on a thumb and went to another site that killed my pc. It took 3 hours to get McAfee started, that was 2 am, at 8 am it was still running with 109 Trojans and pup's detected. When this popped up, it shut down my McAfee and even prevented me from doing a safe mode boot. It got past my firewall and my router security!
I hope by the time I get home I can clear everything and look at my history and find the asshole's site that did this to my PC.
The first pop up that came up was one saying it didn't detect a modem, so the first thing i did was disconnect the cat5 going to my cable. Then I got something called Bravenet security to protect my pc, I want to talk to them about that! 6 new short cuts on my desktop too!

gangbangjoe 03-28-2007 08:52 AM

Tom_PM 03-28-2007 08:54 AM

Quickdraw 03-28-2007 08:56 AM

Vendzilla 03-28-2007 09:09 AM

You need to turn off system restore in msconfig, then restart into safemode...

From there you should be able to clean everything out pretty good...

Once you do that, go ahead and reformat, becasue your system is still gonna be pretty fucked and corrupted...

Good Luck :thumbsup

I know how to do that, it didn't work, it's pretty fucked up. I was going to buy a new laptop and give this PC to my parents, guess I'll wipe the hard drive after I get a few things off it and then I'll be ok. Or I have a 120 gig hard drive I'm not using. They have a paid version of windows vista I can put on there.

Sosa 03-28-2007 09:56 AM

Yeah, now can you imagine how many fucking surfers get infected with all this shit? Atleast we make money at our shop removing the shit

If you can't get it cleaned, then def swap out the drive... Reformating does not always kill the viruses...

Either way, good luck with it :thumbsup

has anyone else noticed that adware, spyware and virus peeps are getting WAY more aggressive than they used to be?

I used to be able to go a year without getting anything at all, these days I am finding myself frustrated at least once a month with an issue.....and evil shit too, not just ads being served or shit like that

Spunky 03-28-2007 05:28 PM

I'm getting some software from texas today, hopefully it will help, then I'll get my files off the hard drive, then take a hammer to it, replace the hard drive, get that PC to my parents and get a new laptop, FRY's is having a sale I'm sure!

Quickdraw 04-01-2007 09:14 PM

Did you ever find the culprit?

Going through some sites and have found a few that only plant trojans randomly.

freebigxxx.com is an example that is adding iframes to noxious sites.
I found this site by a trade from teenbroadband.com
So far that site has used 2 different iframes--
Visiting these urls is not recommended if you like your computer.
src='httpXXXX//prevedtraf.biz/adv/167/new.php' width=1 height=1> which plays with these files--
sploit.anr
win32.exe
count.jar
and a few others.

src="httpXXXX//58.65.236.131/spl/index.php" width=1 height=1> This one had some obfuscated code, but seems to be gone now.

eeek good luck getting it fixed

Ace_luffy 04-02-2007 12:16 AM

goodluck man u can fixed that...

1hoho 04-02-2007 01:15 AM

I soooooo feel for you, I check affiliate sites daily and format my drives a few times a year over it.... the worst however was some BS (and I do not know where it came from :( ) that took every jpeg, wmv, doc, etc. files and encrypted them... gave me a message I was looking at porn and will be reported unless I sent 300US to some crazy addy... was never able to fix the 5k+ files it f'd up till I found it... I would have really tried to kill that fucker if I knew who he was!!!!!!!!!!!! and it was an affiliate of mine... my kids baby photos where some of the files it ruined along with legal docs and stuff i can not replace :(

1hoho 04-02-2007 01:19 AM

BTW... as a program manager, the people who pull this shit fuck us all, programs and affiliates because each day we lose trust from customers who get thier machines f'd up and never trust this industry again... many of us have been in this industry for many years, know who and what to stay away from, have security set high, disallow activeX and autodownloads and still get caught in that BS... how do new customers feel

Lucinka 04-02-2007 01:22 AM

http://jokeonlinesite.com/hoax/aprilfool.html

thats sounds not good:upsidedow

.

DWB 04-02-2007 02:03 AM

that sucks.

stop looking at beast sex and this won't happen again. ;-)

Sarah_Jayne 04-02-2007 03:12 AM

ouch that sounds like the things I see in my nightmares

darling2 04-02-2007 03:27 AM

Ive been using the computer associates antivirus http://home3.ca.com/Microsoft/ for two years now with pest patrol and I've not had a single malware on my PC since that time. I bought the version with Pest Patrol. I look at traffic trades and gallery submissions reglularly so I have been exposed to most of that shit out there.

1hoho 04-02-2007 03:49 AM

the very sad truth is that the people many of these companies(adware, malware, etc) promote... allow them too. I can't even count how many times I hunted people down, the programs they promoted, thier codes etc.... notified the programs about it... and as always, 90% never replied, the ones that did only said we shall look into it, but would not give me a name.... i wanted the name because the reason my machine got screwed up is because i was looking at affiliate sites and needed to know who... too many programs only care about thier sales and if this crap gets them 2 a day, they are good with it... it's unfortunate... I believe in the long term, not quick sale and this hurts us all and ban a person who brings in any amount of sales for crap like this

1hoho 04-02-2007 03:51 AM

come on guys... we all know, the reason they do it is money... and they get it from sponsors who turn thier heads... and many of us know who they are

EdgeXXX 04-02-2007 04:10 AM

NoScript :thumbsup

It can be a bit of a pain in the ass to get used to, but well worth it at times.

What's your beef with Mac? A lot of viruses and exploits are made specifically for Windows and IE, while totally ignoring Mac OS and the Safari browser! It'd be dumb to dismiss the idea.

In any case, Vendzilla: it's horrible that this happened. I've had a few meltdowns back in the day. It's the reason I back up my stuff as much as possible. I even have a backup image of my hard drive in case I need to wipe and restore. Even in the best of conditions, it'd be a pain to restore, but it cuts through a lot of bullshit. Soon as you fix up your laptop and have it set up just the way you like it, make an image with a backup program (I used Norton Ghost, but there's a ton of them out there.)

LOL...I own 2 macs, no beef

I just get sick of people suggesting someone change their entire computer platform, buy new computers and disrupt their workflow over a virus or spyware...like macs don't have their issues too...I have 2 macs and I get my share of crashes and shit happening with them

I just bought a new Laptop on Dell and It should be here next week sometime, going to use a back up to an external drive this time and hopefully not go thru this again, I'm making some headway on the asshole that did this to me, stay tuned!
