Which actor guarantees you buying a ticket or blind buying a DVD

Is there any one actor or actress that if you see them in a trailer, on a movie poster or a DVD boxcover, it almost guarantees you'll see the movie or buy the DVD?

I find I can pretty much watch Giovanni Ribisi in anything...he can often be the one good thing in a bad movie.

Another is Benicio Del Toro. Dax Shepard has been in some pretty shitty movies, but if I see his mug on a dvd cover, I'll probably still at least rent the DVD

edward norton

I go by directors mostly, but you have a point with Giovanni Ribisi he is usually pretty good.

Ed Norton? He's been in some questionable films as of late.

SykkBoy 05-03-2007 11:38 AM

I'm not necessarily talking about favorite actors, but that one guy/gal that just seems to been good in bad movies, outstanding in good movies and just highly watchable in movies that wouldn't work without them...

ADL Josh 05-03-2007 11:38 AM

Will Ferrel:thumbsup

Axeman 05-03-2007 12:33 PM

I am in for any Adam Sandler movie.

Will Ferrell also will get me to see the movie. Even that piece of shit Bewitched.

FetishTom 05-03-2007 12:52 PM

William H Macey or Ed Harris. If you have either of these two in a movie then I feel am on solid ground buying/watching it

Yeah, two more guys who can usually guarantee me an interesting watch, especially Macy...he can play in most anything. I've liked in roles as diverse as Fargo, Mystery Men and Magnolia.

tony286 05-03-2007 02:23 PM

Ed norton I would go with

Yup, or even if he's in a crap movie, he finds a way to shine through...

candyflip 05-03-2007 02:56 PM

Marky Mark always gets my butt into the theatre.

g$$$ 05-03-2007 04:30 PM

Denzel Washington

CaptainHowdy 05-03-2007 05:50 PM

I'd go by the director of the film... except if it's a new Woody Allen movie :Oh crap.

sicone 05-03-2007 05:52 PM

Robert DiNero or Al Pacino

Aquarius 05-03-2007 05:53 PM

Al Pacino for sure.

SilentKnight 05-03-2007 06:10 PM

In a bygone era, I'd have said Robert Redford or Paul Newman.

Lately I'd hafta' say Ben Kingsley, Tom Hanks or Denzel Washington.

Probably Anthony Hopkins, too.

evildick 05-03-2007 06:23 PM

I'll watch anything that's been directed by Robert Rodriquez or Quentin Tarantino. OK, so I got burned on Spy Kids, but just about everything else those two have been involved in has been great.

As for actors, I can't think of anyone that will equal a guaranteed theater visit.

selena 05-03-2007 06:35 PM

Johnny Depp for me.

SykkBoy 05-03-2007 10:24 PM

I'd also have to go with Justin Long...

Holly 05-03-2007 10:35 PM

Joaquin Phoenix, John Malkovich, Al Pacino, Christian Bale

yeah, great actor
I dug him in "Walk The Line" and "Parenthood" (back when he went by Leaf Phoenix) too

D 05-04-2007 12:04 PM

none.

I have actors and directors that would make more more inclined to pay - but none that would guarantee my patronage.

ucv.karl 05-04-2007 12:10 PM

This guy does alright:

(he doesn't do many films for some reason)

(what is up the the bra?)

Also concerning Edward Norton: Usually he is pretty good, but this was a waste of everyones time. :2 cents:

And he's going to be in the incredible hulk? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Norton wtf?

Or this wiki nonsense?

fangtastic 05-04-2007 12:27 PM

Joaquin Phoenix, and Ann Hathaway

Elli 05-04-2007 02:01 PM

Liam Neeson, Johnny Depp, Kevin Spacey, Christian Bale, Al Pacino, Seymour Philip Hoffman
Sigourney Weaver, Cate Blanchett somewhat..

Aneros Josh 05-04-2007 02:04 PM

Brad Pitt with the exception of "The Mexican't"

Shoehorn! 05-04-2007 02:10 PM

Pierce Brosnan.
