Why the iPhone is not the ultimate phone!!

The iPhone is not the phone of the future because it only works on the AT&T network. The phone of the future will be a phone that will be able to access both the cellular network and be a VOIP phone that can make calls through the Internet via hotspots and other free internet services.

This is what I'm waiting for, the full integration of both cellular and internet connections and the ability to roam between them seamlessly with a wireless phone!

Andiz 06-22-2007 04:33 PM

Keep waiting ......right now the Iphone is pretty cool :)

Undoubtedly. Apart from the touchscreen that recognises more than one point of contact, what does the Iphone do that PDA style phones haven't been doing for years?

I actually looked long and hard at the iPhone and ended up going with the Curve. That may not be the best situation for everyone, but it does what I need it to do :)

exactly agreed

Goodings Media 06-22-2007 05:11 PM

If i can sent text messages, send emails, and make telephone calls, I dont care about anything else :)

Its harder to find a phone these days that ALWAYS has a great reception, and always sounds loud and clear :(

DavieVegas 06-22-2007 06:04 PM

I want that phone. Which provider is that with???? I was about to change my new lg from verizon and go get a helio.

my buddy got this from another board... not sure how credible it is but check it out

Updates!
Well i work for at&t/cingular and got this few days ago..the bad about the iphone

1.
I'm being told by a friend who is a COR Manager in Philly that There is going to be specific IPhone Plans with a base starting price of over $100/mo. No customization, No choosing your features, No early N&W, NO FAN DISCOUNTING ALLOWED!!!!! Apple is Making a 60% margin on this phone!!!! Plus they get a piece of this special plan. GREEDY
2.
Price: $600-$800 with a 2-yr contract. You could by 2 8525's for that kind of money.
3.
If the Iphone breaks(and it will) Cingular will not help the customer out even through XBM. The customer will have to go to an Apple store (Good luck finding one) to exchange it (with a $100 deductible) or mail it away and wait up to 2 weeks for a new one(no phone for 2 WEEKS. AHHHHHHH)
4.
It's pretty big for a phone – bigger than the Treo 750, BlackBerry Pearl & 8525.I TS HUGH(imagine holding a phone to your head that's almost 2x as big as the 8525) - Also were will you carry it (Wont fit in your pocket)And who wants a phone sticking out 4 inches from there waist on a clip???(The Blackjack fits in your shirt pocket)
5.
The design places too much emphasis on the product as a phone, and not enough on PDA features (entering new contacts or appointments), iPod features (not enough memory), or data connectivity (EDGE instead of a true 3G network?)
6.
Apple says there is only a 5 hour talk time. (so as we all know with all phones cut that in half) and that's if you DON'T use the music/video player or Internet. AND NO REMOVABLE BATTERY SO YOU CAN'T EVEN SWAP THEM OUT - There goes the Power Users
7.
NO 3G - AHHHH WHAT??? - So no Cellular Video or downloading LARGE attachments from Email
8.
2MP camera (but its a low end optic so pictures look just as bad as a VGA Camera)
9.
No expansion Slot so there is no way to add additional memory once you fill up the built in memory
10.
Apple has come out stating that there will be " no 3rd-party apps" going into the iPhone, citing stability concerns as the primary reason. A "SMARTPHONE" with NO ability for expansion programs, what's so "SMART" about that. (Windows, Palm, Blackberry & Symbian OS's have thousands of expansion programs) - There goes the Road Warrior customers(especially realtors)
11.
No support for excel or PowerPoint - There goes the Business Customers
12.
NO IM Client (That right no AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ or even the APPLE IM Client Ichat) - There goes the Teen market
13.
This Phone was NOT made for texters (How are you going to text quickly on a touchscreen) - There goes the Teen market Again
14.
The phone supports POP3/SMTP & IMAP mail servers, but not Exchange or Blackberry servers. So no automatic PUSH email you actually have to ask it to check your email - There Goes the Business Customers Again
15.
Google Maps, yay, but no GPS functionality? Come on - if you're going to 'reinvent' the phone, GPS should be in there. Several high-end phones have it, so why not the iPhone? So what's the point - 8800 has it built in (Half our other phones can use GPS with the telenav puck)
16.
No support for MP3 only Apples proprietary ITUNES AAC format (So you got to spend HOURS converting our MP3 collection into Itunes before you can load any music on the phone)
17.
If you want to purchase music you HAVE to do it from ITUNES for $0.99, our windows devices allow you to purchase music from multiple companies for as little as $0.59 or Rent all the music you want for only $14.99(With a free year on the Sync or Blackjack
18.
CANT USE ITUNES AS RINGTONES
19.
NO removable SIM card(WHAT?????) so if SIM goes bad you need a new phone
20.
Screen is Made of a semi-plastic material that will scratch easily(AKA IPOD) and will not stand up to demands of modern life.
21.
Fingers constantly smudging the screen. Yes, we're sure the touchscreen UI is wondrous, but watching video on a screen covered in fingerprints… great! and who wants to watch movies with fingerprints all over the screen
22.
Will not work one Handed at all. The Iphone is designed to be held by one have and controlled with the index finger on the other. (isn't the whole world used to dialing with there thumbs....)
23.
NO AIRPLANE MODE (IE you Cant turn off the transmitter like you can in all our other PDA/Smartphones SO you cant use it for music or movies when on a plane. FAA Will not allow it)
24.
NO voice Command (so good luck dialing on a touch screen when driving Again not designed to be dialed with your thumb)
25.
The most important feature of the included browser (Safari) seems to be that it zooms in and out, but many phones have browsers, so this is not a big deal
26.
NO JAVA support. Apple's commercials seam to claim that you can view any website (Well most use Java, so NO YOU CANT)

Cliffs: It's going to suck

notabook 06-22-2007 06:15 PM

I wouldn't ever buy one, but what about people (like me) with really oily fingers? Won't fingerprints be a problem on a touchscreen-only phone? Won't it need constant cleaning?

Sounds about right. If you follow any of the financial channels they have discussed many of these points already.

Its only the first generation though. It will be interesting to see how this evolves.

Toshiba's latest smartphone was in Paris and if you want to call its by his name it's the G900.

As you can see it is an "horizontal slider" featuring a 3 inches wide screen (800x480), USB host, 2 MPx digicam, wifi, bluetooth, 3G, 3G+, GPRS and 64MB of RAM among other things.

This product will go on sale this month in Europe and Japan for 600?.

id take my samsung over overhyped overpriced shitty phones any day. It fell on the ground about ten times, its been even stepped on and it still works like its brand new.

AHHHHHHH)
4.
It's pretty big for a phone ? bigger than the Treo 750, BlackBerry Pearl & 8525.I TS HUGH(imagine holding a phone to your head that's almost 2x as big as the 8525) - Also were will you carry it (Wont fit in your pocket)And who wants a phone sticking out 4 inches from there waist on a clip???(The Blackjack fits in your shirt pocket)
Yes, we're sure the touchscreen UI is wondrous, but watching video on a screen covered in fingerprints? great! and who wants to watch movies with fingerprints all over the screen

I cant comment on the ATT plan options, or replacement options.. but most of this list is just false. I have been following the iPhone pretty closely, and I guess you can call me an Apple fanboy..

I will try to buy an iPhone. Rumors are going around that they might be available without a contract, because Apple removed the text from their onsite advertisements saying it required a plan. If thats the case I will buy one. If we are locked in, I just might wait till someone has it on ebay, unlocked.

For example..
"26.
NO JAVA support. Apple's commercials seam to claim that you can view any website (Well most use Java, so NO YOU CANT)"

Err... iPhone has JavaSCRIPT support. Most sites do use javascript now and days. The iPhone doesn't have a Java Runtime as far as I know which is a completely different beast. That just means any site using an embedded java application, similar to a flash application, wont necessarily work. Guess what? Windows Vista, or XP doesnt come with one either.. This person is getting Java confused with Javascript. Most sites definitely do not use applets. They are pretty rare, and never really took off in the first place.

"19.
NO removable SIM card(WHAT?????) so if SIM goes bad you need a new phone"

Its had a removable SIM since day one, and is widely known.

Im not going to go through the whole list, but really most of these items were just made up... so if you arent going to get the phone, just make sure its for valid reasons:P

jonesonyou 06-25-2007 07:11 AM

bad apple.

tranza 06-25-2007 07:38 AM

iPhone was never the ultimate phone....

:2 cents:

TubeTitans_SusieQ 06-25-2007 07:39 AM

im content with my prepaid pos lol

Ravage 06-25-2007 07:40 AM

It also doesn't suck and fuck you, so of course its not the ultimate phone.

royaljelly2 06-25-2007 07:42 AM

Only AT&T?! i guess they are not concerned about reaching all of the market.
I guess that's cause they aren't using GSM network?

I'll be sticking with my Treo. Infact, I just ordered a new 755p.

I'm a big Apple fan and user. I'll wait until the 2nd gen versions come out.

If you rely on it for work and work it hard buy anything but Apple. If you need to make a fashion statement or substitute a small penis buy Apple.

yys 06-25-2007 08:09 AM

Supposedly the iphone sucks for texting

Serge Litehead 06-25-2007 08:12 AM

that list is invalid as it has many downright false statements.

on the other hand, friend of mine has HTC P3300 which from a quick glance was awesome to use and feel, usually I'm not friendly with unknown devices.

Yep.

Also, most people dont seem to realize, it is ILLEGAL for a carrier not to provide you with an unlock code on your request. I'll go on record, predicting unlocked iPhones will be all over Ebay shortly after its Friday release.. Granted, the prices will probably be ridiculous. Bottom line is, you will be able to use the iPhone on any GSM network, if you can get your hands on one. I'm still hoping there is someway to get it without a contract.

This is what I'm waiting for, the full integration of both cellular and internet connections and the ability to roam between them seamlessly with a wireless phone!

I agree + AT&T = Cingular = Crap service, Dropped calls and delayed voice mail !!

That is true... but picking a cell carrier is like voting for president.

Your fucked no matter who you chose.:(

Do you want the baseball bat that is about to be shoved up your ass, wrapped in sandpaper? or steel wool?
