EdgeXXX 08-12-2007 09:14 AM

I've seen quite a few Ferraris and Lambos that have been destroyed by engine fires. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the manufacturers, so I would love to know whats causing these fires...

Sosa 08-12-2007 09:17 AM

whoopsie!

Aussie-Mark 08-12-2007 09:30 AM

that would sux, I've seen a older ferrari blow a rear tire before and the flying rubber ripped big chunks out of the fibre glass body work

Well, as someone that has had a car catch on fire, I would say it is due to the engine in the rear. Not getting enough air blowing through the engine compartment.

Small gas seepage combined with a cracked spark plug wire equals kaboom.

It really is an interesting experience.

Casa Nova 08-12-2007 01:25 PM

I never thought of it that way, that the engine isn't getting enough air blown through it since it's not in the front..very well could be a big factor in the fires.

On that note I'd love to have a Ferrari....one day.

man wtf ? :1orglaugh

a cracked spark plug wire in brand new Ferrari ?

oh man :) :) :)

DatingGold 08-13-2007 03:24 PM

oil leak + hot engine = fire

I would rather have it burnt o the ground then catch fire and put it out with an extinguisher.

Much better to have a Ferrari totalled than fixable. As long as you arent hurt in the process lol.

Sveindt Beindt 08-13-2007 03:27 PM

nikki99 08-13-2007 03:35 PM

is expensive?

DatingGold 08-13-2007 03:35 PM

I have a F430 Spider and the engine gets hot as hell. Thats just the way they are, the guages are normal, they just put off alot of heat. Definitely enough to start a fire if some oil starts leaking or builds up.

Mr. Websites 08-13-2007 03:36 PM

Oh-my-god. :uhoh

AmyAmy 08-13-2007 03:37 PM

it COULD be something of concern, i mean it did catch where the engine is

Azoy? 08-14-2007 03:31 PM

Insurance company is not happy :winkwink:

Brother Bilo 08-14-2007 03:44 PM

Ouch, sucks for that guy.

Phat Phil 08-14-2007 05:02 PM

Its obvious he knew something was wrong before the fire started. The hood was up as the fire was going, you can't just go up to a engine on fire and open the hood. That shows that there was a problem with the car before the fire took place, it was probley a series of events that lead to the fire that was actually preventable. If you think something is wrong with your car and you have a engine that can ignite things very easily due to the heat it lets off, you need to let it cool down before you even go near the hood before working on it. I'm going to bet on lack of coolent + crack in head/head gasket tore up. When you get the mix of lubricant + coolent/or water if your cheap, or possibly even a leak somewhere else in a engine that hot.. Things take a turn for the worse. However I'm not a mechanic or pretend I know ne thing about cars thats just my estimated guess from working on my pos.

Phat Phil 08-14-2007 05:03 PM

Also note theres fire on the ground, means leak or spill, although the fire may have melted through by the time that photo was taken.
