Video Guys: Is there a .FLV splitter program?

hey guys, is there such a thing as a .FLV splitter just like they have for WM's and MPEGS and stuff, I use Boilsofts WMV Splitter, works great causue it just splits the files into chumnk without having to re-render... how about one that works with FLV (flash) files? :helpme

Not sure, so far I've been splitting whatever native format I have, then I convert the clips to flv.

I've been rendering the full 30 min scene in WMV, then rendering the 30 min in FLV. Then I use a splitter on the 30 min WMV into 9 parts, and then rendering the 9 part flv's from that, figure that was a stupid way to do it since it takes forever to re-render the entire thing in FLV again.. splitter is the way to go!

Let us know how it works! :thumbsup

ehh, same result here, it's a ".ax" file format, so from what info I can find on that extension it's a plugin add-on to some program, but the site doesn't say for which program... hmmmmmm

gleem 08-27-2007 12:14 PM

k, best lead for it I see is it's mentioned on this page:
http://www.degeelebosch.nl/corone/dsfp/main.htm

which points for it being a plugin for this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectShow

I'm a mac guy, so when it comes to installing things on my PC I'm a bit weary since I'm guessing if I install Directshow it's gonna fuck something else up in WMP, and then my workstation is pretty much useless.

Oh well.. from what I can tell a decent FLV splitter does not exist.. period.. end of story.

Not only does a .flv splitter app not exist, but a .mov auto-splitting app does not exist either. Boilsoft Splitter 4.28 can split WMV/mpeg/real.

I recently got some quotes from programmers to create such an app, most of them around $1000+ bucks.

splitting flv's isn't too difficult, inject meta data with flvmdi and split the data to taste, making sure to recreate the flv header for each new file

yeah? if they can make one like the WMV splitters which are pretty much instant file creations, I'd go in on that.

ehh? I don't how to do the described and then make 9 little FLV files from 1 big FLV.. care to elaborate?

Pornwolf 08-27-2007 01:34 PM

Gleem, try using Flash Media Encoder's edit function when making parts from the source file in the future. I usually split video into flv parts this way.

It's pretty efficient.

That is exactly what I got quoted on, on one of those FindAFreelancer web sites, basically someone to mimic the Boilsoft app's functionality except for flv and mov sources. The dozen or so quotes I received ranged from about $1000-$1500, from some programmers all over the world. If we got a few content producers to chip in it would be a very useful tool and only cost us a smallish amount of money each.

what are you guys using to convert your wmv's or avis to flv?

gleem 08-27-2007 06:47 PM

On2's FLV converter:

lash Video (".FLV" extension) is the format used to display video in Flash content. Most Flash Video content is viewed online (on sites such as YouTube), but in order to view .FLV content locally, you need a splitter installed. You will also need an FLV decoder installed. FFDShow can be enabled to play this format. You simply need to instruct it to decode "FLV1" content on the codec section of its configuration page.

I almost always start with full sized AVI files edited from SD or HDV footage as my sources to start with the best quality. I use Cleaner XL 1.5 or Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 to encode to Flash video. Squeeze is much faster than Cleaner XL plus it can use the ON2 VP6 codec for the best quality flash video. Only drawback is that Squeeze still can't add watermarks to the encoded files unlike Cleaner XL. If it wasn't for that I'd switch to Squeeze for all my encoding. But Cleaner's watermarks and filters are much more sophisticated than Squeeze and that wins out for me in everything except Flash video, or Ipod and PSP compatible files.
