Breaking even with TheHun banner placement
 

So i'm wondering... Banners need to be hosted on your own server. Take a 15k banner and give it 1 million views. That makes 15 000 000kb per day. Now multiply that by 30 days: 450 000 000kb = 450GIG for a fuckin banner???
Plus you gotta consider the $900 fee...
So let's say you pay $.50 per gig used, that's $225 + $900 for a total of $1125. Can you really get that many signups from his traffic so it's worth it or is it that half of the people who advertise there don't even break even.
Is it that i'm only either pessimistic? Did i do my math wrong?

If it's really that good, why doesn't he put his own banners only? ask yourself this question and you will get the answer.

Yeah although some people prefer getting $900 for sure than getting $900 maybe. It's safer.

I haven't checked your math and I don't know if you would break even or not. I will leave both matters to others to answer. If you only run the ad for one month, even if you don't break even for the month, and in fact did get a million views, the over all exposure for your business could well be worth it in the long run. per day. Do you think you can get 1-2 signups per day off of 1,000,000 impressions?

You are right, it's all about advertisement. They make money with advertisement. If not, they wouldn't sell those spots. It's simple as that.

Now you know your answer, are you willing to *risk* that money?

having new banners all the time offers the surfers a lot more to choose from , and no hastles about getting paid cause all money is UPFRONT. Many people have been buying banners on the hun for YEARS and make piles of money from them

So i'll go again with the math
What's your typical clickthru on a place like the hun? 0.1%, 0.05%
then let's try at .1%
1000000 x 0.001 = 1000 clicks? i guess you can get 2 sales out of that easy
1000000 x 0.0005 = 500 clicks? it's a bit harder to get 2 sales out of that but not impossible

So then, placement and i guess if the banner can pull enough might determine if you'll break even or not

The convenient thing is you can change your banner as much as you like so you know which one pulls best

For $900 you're not going to get 1 million views at thehun. You get only so-called "slot" with about 5 other banners in rotation, and not in the best place. That leaves you with 200K views, not all of them are actual views since there are many banners at the site, and hun's bookmarkers were never noticed for their banner viewing efforts.

Eventually you'll end up with 500-1000 clicks a day, and it's up to you to decide if it's worth $1125/month (actually a bit less since most of his traffic are bookmarkers and your banner will be cashed)

Use a 2 color .GIF ;)

I know of one site that does buy banner space on the hun, he gets right around 200K click thrus during the month. So if you figure a site doing 1:2000 raw will produce 100 signups, then $1200 is not really that much to pay :)

I am sure many people made money from them. But If it is so profitable like you are saying I would keep the spots for me.
