Hosted galleries or your own galleries
 

So I've been mulling it over all night (I never seem to switch off from things) and I want to know,

Does it make any difference to conversions if you link to a gallery hosted by the website you're promoting or if you create and host the gallery yourself?

Any help would be appreciated

It depends what source of traffic you use...

sometimes own crappy design sells better - "ugly sells"

From my experience custom stuff in most cases sells better.
But if you're hesitant between sponsor FHGs and your own galleries the first thing you have to take into account is bandwidth, aparently your own custome galleries will eat a lot of it.

If you want to bring fresh galleries to your site a good idea would be enabling partner accounts, that will save your bandwidth however you won't get credit for sales on such galleries.
