For all of you MMA JiuJitsu Guys here.

I've seen a couple of Sigs with Martial Arts stuff in them and even 1 Gracie Barra logo and some ATT guys here. So I figured these guys may think this is cool.

From Xtreme Couture in West Palm Beach.

I'm the guy in the middle who just got a blue belt from Carlos Gracie Jr himself. (The Master is on the right my instructor Professor Marcello on left.)

ATT Represent!

We are from the same family, American Top Team's Mestre is Ricardo Liborio, one of Carlson Gracie Sr's (RIP) best blackbelt.

Congratulations buddy, Blue isn't an easy belt to get, but it means you have the basics down, and is worth a blackbelt in any other system. :)

I gotta dig out my Blue Belt pic now. :)

Actually, I am in my office at the moment and if you've got a bead on me right now........ You're good!!!!!

I'd like to point out that shooting someone gets you in prison, in prison you don't get a gun and BIG SHIRLEY will try to cornhole you. (Not as easy to cornhole me I think as shoot me .......)

Like I said some may appreciate it, not all.

Thanks for the support.

Doing it since June 2007 when Xtreme Couture opened.

My son Connor is 7 and he's been doing it for a year too. (He's gonna beat me up one day I just know it. >;-))

He out ranked me until yesterday when I got the blue. (They give kida many more belts than adults.)

d-null 10-18-2008 11:32 AM

at the risk of guessing your age too high, can I assume that you started the bjj after the age of 30 then? that is inspiring, how is it for aches, pains, and injuries (assuming that that is easier for the guys in their teens and twenties)?

Yep, I started when I was 45, I thought to myself well you old fat bastard you're gonna die soon if you don't get off your ass!!!!! (My dad died at 52 of a heart attack) So I had like 7 years left on the clock.

Heard a radio spot for the gym and went there. It helped that Randy Couture and Wanderlei Silva were there. So I joined.

That said I trained for many years in Shaolin Gung Fu and had a black belt in that when I was 17 I also trained with many other styles throughout the years. BJJ IS WAY HARDER!!!!!!

Aches and pains are many in the begining and I get more of them as I am older than most.
I am pretty much the oldest guy at my gym, there is one other guy but he's beed doing it longer than me.

That said the young bucks are fucking fast and they don't get tired as fast. (When they are in shape.)

But I am up to 6 10 minute rounds in training now and feel pretty good. I am the strongest guy at the gym 240 lbs and in certain cercumstances stregth is good.

Yep, they figure if your not doing it in a gi your doin' it wrong!!!!!!!!

I actually like gi for training 75% of the time. In gi you have to learn the escapes and you don't usually just sweaty arm your way out of a submission.

germ 10-18-2008 12:30 PM

congratulations man. thats a hell of a gym to train at :thumbsup

WarChild 10-18-2008 12:33 PM

Congrats on the blue belt. Feels great, doesn't it? Now welcome to the long struggle that is the climb to purple. Took me 10 months to get to blue belt. Taken me 2 years to get 1 stripe on that blue. Grr.

Incidentally, I'm doing a Seminar with Master Gracie and Professor Marcello in Vancouver at GB November 8th. Looking forward to it!

Thanks...

I really like it there we are tight as death there. 20 MMA fights for us so far (gym 1 year old) all over the country. no losses. 6 pro 14 am. not too shabby for a start up gym.

I don't have a formal blue belt pic, but this is me about to KTFO Jeff Glover, which should be all the cred I need. Lately I've been giving pretty good battles to some purples so I might be moving up soon (fingers crossed!)

Keep on doin' it and you'll adavance to black belt level and beyond, it's when yo stop that you go backwards.

A purple belt in BJJ from any reputable school is equal to a black belt in other martial arts in the US.

Purples completely squash black belts from any other MA. You're already equal to a bb with your blue, trust me.

It generally takes about two years to get a black belt from a TMA, and that TMA isn't going to be a lot of help in a real fight in some cases. It takes (usually) about 18 months to two years to get your blue in BJJ and for the most part you can dominate any untrained guy with it if you have to. A black belt in BJJ means you just have insane skills, pretty much completely untouchable by any normal person. We have one here in Just Dave.

My 7 year old boy has been training for a year and he loves it. (Bad little mofo)

In after care at school they were learning taekwondo 1 day a week, my boy come home and says " I don't wanna do jiu jitsu anymore, it's just wrestling"

I said what? where'd you hear that shit?
He said the Karate teacher sold out JiuJitsu and told him it sucks. Boy was I pissed off!!!

I gave my son my business card and told him to take it to school and give it to the karate teacher and tell him "My daddy's a white belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he will kick your black belt ass all over the place if you bad mouth BJJ to me and make me not want to train again" (seriously)
