When You Went to Your First BROvention
....what surprised you, or didn't?
Kristin did not have a stogie in her mouth? Sly wasn't there? The chicks were more naked? People in this industry not what you expected? Sessions not earth shattering? The Zing (stinkyfingerz) was not as tall as expected? 12clicks dance moves at the pool unexpected? No polish_aristocrat? What was it that stood out for YOU most? |
all the douchebags with no game. ever seen a computer nerd try to pick up talent?

Lemme think on some of mine...
1. For the cost, you would think some of the hotels would not be so ratty. 2. Some of the sessions were repetitive BRO fests talking about BRO things. 3. 12clicks dance moves. 4. I guess I always expected prettier puppet masters. 5. Drunks were as advertised. 6. At some conferences, there was more shit then you could possibly get to going on. 7. Most more friendly than I would have thought. 8. Board persona versus staring them eye to eye. 9. Lots of fun. 10. Nice tax write offs. Everything gets ya. |

XBiz Vegas 2008
was actually pretty lame... too many people just standing around kissing ass for free shit Obnoxious jerkoffs with cameras acting like they've never seen tits before... massive sausage fest verdict: never going to another show again |

I heard that conference was SMOKE CENTRAL. Was thinking of catching that one this year. |
my first one was in 2001 or so back when CE did the local shows not many content chicks there but the convention was a blast.
|
My first show was a Phoenix Forum.
I was surprised at how easy it was to connect with industry people (again...I'm that 1 out of 90 girl) lol I learned that after midnight, whoever talks business to you just wont remember a thing on the next day. Some have a funny fashion style. ;) That's it for now.. |

I think my first show as a webmaster was Vegas IE/AE 2001. It was huge and overwhelming, but people were very nice and friendly. I was with a few friends who showed me how to meet folks and I was off and running! I was surprised at how much money was being thrown around in the contests, like the Silvercash Porsche (I think that's what it was) and the size of the show floor.
|
LOL.
I haven't been to a show in a while. Not sure what surprised me most... |

I was at the buffet with some folks, I believe TDF was there at a buffet in Las Vegas maybe in 2001-02....The dude named "The Fly" was popular then but then somebody had to cover for him because he didn't have any money in his bank account....
I was ASTOUNDED that his ATM card didn't work... I believe it was another old gfy member named Keev who covered him. |
I also happened to be right there when Kayla pissed in that cup on the boat....That was in Florida though.

Seeing tumbleweed across the show floor amazed me after being at a ton of mainstream events...

2001 was my first brovention...boy that florida show was an eye opener for me.

My surprise - nobody buys you drinks. Especially after all that board talk about it.
*Could be explained by those pesky open bars, which I guess are sponsors but come on who remembers who sponsors the drinks? I do however find it funny that some people (particularly reps) sort of group in their own cliques and you see these same groups of people hanging out together at almost every show never bothering to meet new people. |

It totally annoys me when I want to buy someone a drink and, when I get to the bar, it is open bar. |

Sure, you have your 12clicks, Lightspeed, ToeJo and a few others bouncing around from programs and shit. But a lot of the people who I run into only know about their own little theifdom and not about much else. As for business?? I thought they were all their to party. |
First show was down in Miami in '98 Fucking had a blast. Full nudity on the floor, including a lot of girl/girl live sex shows happening. Coolest moment was me and Al4a walking up to the hotel bar in the middle of the day and Patrick (the hun) was sitting there all by himself. So it was just me, Al, and the hun hanging out. That was a lot of good traffic sitting there all by ourselves. At that time AL4A.com was the number 1 site and the hun was number 2 on Sextracker. It was pretty cool.
I guess the thing that kind of surprised me the most was the fact that 99.9% of the people there were very "normal". I thought most of the people in "adult" would be like me. Actually IN adult. But it turned out that they weren't. They were mostly either affiliates whose only real connection with adult was being an advertiser (basically a salesman...although none of us who are affiliates like to be told that) or they were "suits" who owned internet companies pretty much based on marketing old porn from the Porn Valley "real" companies. There were very few people who were actually "hands on" and with "skin in the game". And that has remained true to this very day. But before I got there I had these fantasies that it was gonna be a bunch of crazy fucks like me and we would have all the porn starlets there and it would be a giant drug filled orgy. lol Instead, at the end of every night it was me, an eight ball, and Melonee Mounds (who attended with me). Lord knows we looked for others to join us in a big pile of naked peeps...but as I said, we were shocked at how normal and downright prudish the internet side was. I'm used to it now, and looking back I guess I was sort of naive about what an adult internet convention really was. But somehow over the years, I've learned to adapt to the bro-ventions and I manage to get a little crazy anyway! :) |
Hmmm when I went to my first (which was Phoenix Forum 2005) I was surprised by how WELCOMING people were. Wasnt surprised by the naked porn chicks, the partying or anything else...

Now you know how and why all the GFY millionaires make their money and never have to show you anything. That riddle has been answered for you. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh |
The last brovention I went to had J$tyles ordering soul food at Kizzy's in Marina Del Rey and after had the waitresses throwing themselves at us.
Wait, that wasn't a brovention, that was just a routine dinner with Johnathan. :pimp |
i actually went to the first show expecting people to want to talk biz and shit. quickly found out that it's like an all out party where everyone pretends to talk biz for a minute or two here and there. and mass amounts of dudes.
