Don't you hate those locks on DVD cases?
 

I don't know if they're used worldwide, the cases have a plastic bar inside that looks like it can only be opened by a couple of powerful magnets moving past in a specific way. A few times the place I've purchased the DVD from has forgotten to unlock them, and I've only realised once I got home.

This time, it was about TWO MONTHS later, I'd long ago thrown out the receipt... so I have to BREAK INTO the case; I can't take it back to unlock it since they'll just assume I lifted it.

Do these locks even stop shoplifting? You can still open the case with a fair bit of brute force, although I damaged mine a little.

It's a bit like that "downloading movies is stealing" header at the start of every DVD, that you CANNOT skip... 5% steal but the 95% that actually buy the product still have to suffer through this shit... same with locks.

Yes all the stupid plastic and then a lock... Come the fuck on I dont want to break out the knife to open a fucking dvd...

i havent bought a dvd since i started netflixing, i wonder if netflix is gonna crash the dvd market lol

If you didn't try to steal them it wouldn't be an issue.

you could buy another one to get a receipt. Take the locked one back and have them unlock it, and then go and return your 2nd copy with the receipt.
Of course, this will take 2 trips to the store just to save a stupid plastic dvd case.

I hate all the stickers that are on new dvd's. You know, the ones that seal every single angle on the thing.

I hate the cardboard sleeves. That's becoming the standard, but I hate that shit. I don't want to slip the DVD out of a case, then pop the lock tabs, then open a case, then press a button in the middle and have to flex the disk to pop it out. I seriously need to go digital storage on this shit. FUCK DVD's

go over to dvdtalk and sell your slipcovers... people love them...
the lock tabs are removable.. just give them a twist....
most hubs should release the disc if you press it right... but yeah, i've broken a few disks bending the fuckers to get them out : )

The lock tabs are to make it harder to sale them after you steal them.

I noticed the case has one of those electronic sticker tags inside (which is nearly impossible to remove - it just tears) so I guess having the lock does reduce the chances of that happening. In order to be able to waltz out of the store without activating the security system you would need to-

1. Remove the wrapper from the DVD case. (That alone takes some time and willpower!)
2. Break open the case
3. Remove the sticker tag

This sequence of events wouldn't be quick, or inconspicuous...

But again, why the fuck should I have to suffer just because a small percentage of people don't want to pay for the stuff?

I can't get any fucking thing open with a plastic case without a blowtorch ! Yeah I know what you mean ... locks, 2 inch plastic, tape you can't cut even with your keys ... :Oh crap

Maybe different subject but since they know we are all theives or excpect it anyway ... what about al the fucking security cameras and digital tv screens with you picking your nose on 4 or five different monitors ... at the grocery store ?

If you're going to steal something fuck the lock they have you on video trying to open it ?
