Is this really THAT offensive???

This morning, a friend posted this:

We're buying Kelly a new ipod nano for her 13th birthday and when you order online from apple you can have it engraved. So I need some ideas on something cute and quirky to write on it...any ideas??

My response:

"Dont get knocked up."

This resulted in a tirade of rage from her and her husband. I apologized multiple times for offending them, despite the fact that technically, it IS good advice for a 13-year old in this day and age, and the humor was totally tongue-in-cheek.

Am I an tactless asshole in denial, or do they need to lighten up?

Fletch XXX 11-14-2008 10:43 AM

13th birthday, ummm that might tick off her parents LOL

Jens Van Assterdam 11-14-2008 10:45 AM

LOL, blame the parents for being humorless retards.

undersoul 11-14-2008 10:45 AM

yeah you are a tactless ass lol

EscortBiz 11-14-2008 10:45 AM

someone would tell me that about my 13yo kid they would not be able to write again in their life thats a guarantee

The Duck 11-14-2008 10:47 AM

Well, its was a bit tactless but I think that is caused by the industry in which you choose to work :o

Scott McD 11-14-2008 10:47 AM

Umm, maybe in a few years that would have been fine lol...

Cyandin 11-14-2008 10:47 AM

Dang, I should have really made this thread into a poll.

MetaMan 11-14-2008 10:48 AM

tranza 11-14-2008 10:54 AM

I could not imagine anyone taking it seriously.. and then when I imagine someone actually taking it seriously, I can only just shake my head. I'm sorry you have friends that dont "get it" like probably 90% of normal humans would have.

LauraLee 11-14-2008 11:18 AM

I personally laughed, but then hardly anything offends me, and I don't have a daughter :winkwink:

MetaMan 11-14-2008 11:19 AM

just when you thought you could be wrong the adult industry once again proves it's full of thoughtless slimeballs. WHOO HOO

Fresh 11-14-2008 11:21 AM

eh, nothing to cry about.

Vicious_B 11-14-2008 11:21 AM

I do have a 13 year old daughter and if that was said to me I would laugh if it was said by someone that I was friends with. If it was said around my daughter or by someone I didnt know it might piss me off.

Machete_ 11-14-2008 11:21 AM

Maybe its something to do with you being a porn webmaster and implying their 13 year old kid is having sex.

Cyandin 11-14-2008 11:21 AM

I mean, I'm not an intentionally disrespectful guy - at least not until provoked. I didn't mean to offend them, and I'm a father myself (though to a son). I'm struggling with reaching a mental verdict on this one, since it's technically good advice, it was meant as completely tongue-in-cheek humor. But, I completely acknowledge the grounds for offense as well.

Regardless, I wont be saying anything like that to those two again. But I still think it's fucking hilarious to have got a rise like that out of them. :)

Joe BrainCash 11-14-2008 11:22 AM

Their reaction might just express the fear they have knowing what's coming for a 13 year old daughter... 13, 14 and 15 for female teens are the worst... Add sexuality discovery to bad tantrums, pushing the limits, etc...

Kevin Marx 11-14-2008 11:24 AM

Depends on your relationship to the parents. If you are good friends with them where sarcasm is prevalent, then they overreacted.

If you are just casual friends or acquaintances, then the joke was inappropriate.

Kind of like telling black jokes to a very close black friend. They would probably laugh their asses off. If you aren't close with the person, you are just a racist asshole. Same joke... different recipients.

See, that's exactly what I was thinking when I said it. I thought that among friends, such humor would not evoke such a inflamed reaction. However, Pat is probably right. I probably struck a nerve, being that they're dawning on the scariest phase of childhood for a female.

NicAngel 11-14-2008 11:45 AM

tell them to pull the stick out of their ass. they asked! and seriously, they really needed to ask advice for what to engrave on an ipod?? gimme a break.

Tom_PM 11-14-2008 11:55 AM

"If found, please thank God that our daughter lost her Ipod and not her virginity"

Try that.

tASSy 11-14-2008 11:55 AM

i think it's a funny response, but i don't think they should put it on the iPod !~ can't they take a joke?!

G-Rotica 11-14-2008 11:57 AM

I have 2 daughters, and I found in not only funny, but very good advice.

NaughtyRob 11-14-2008 11:59 AM

Very tactless. lol

andy83 11-14-2008 12:04 PM

well probably yeah. its kinda offensive if you think it this way,

the daughter might think that her parents are allowing her to have sex, just don't get knocked up.

They need to lighten up. Sounds like they are having other underlying problems.

czarina 11-14-2008 01:53 PM

I think it is VERY funny.
Yes, it may be a little strong with goody-goody parents of a 13 year old girl, who probably is already banging everything that moves or vibrates. But hey, that's the American middle class for you. Welcome to Fruitopia!

u-Bob 11-14-2008 02:08 PM

LOL, good one :)

d-null 11-14-2008 02:22 PM

dump them

you don't need uptight friends like that anyways :2 cents:

qxm 11-14-2008 02:28 PM

... gotta be tough for a parent to think about her barely teenage daughter getting knocked up....

dav3 11-14-2008 03:12 PM

I laughed really hard. Then again, I am a tactless asshole. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Mr Pheer 11-14-2008 03:43 PM

I dont know what to say... none of my friends are that uptight. Something like that is far less worse than a lot of other shit that I say.
