If a tree falls on Mars and there's no one there to hear it - does it make a sound?

gooddomains 11-29-2008 10:54 AM

wood in space? that would mean that a nice barbecue fire would be possible ;-)

F-U-Jimmy 11-29-2008 11:11 AM

Its a bit of the box that the lander was delivered in :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Violetta 11-29-2008 01:28 PM

One of the stage crew forgot to move it out of the scene.

Why aren't they sending back HD video of that shit??? They can send a rover to mars, but they can't beam a signal back? WTF? If it's a chunk of wood on Mars, send back some HD video... IN COLOR of that shit, and circle all around it with the rover. The badly pieced together images are a joke.

I think they are a joke by design. Us peasants are not worthy of knowing the real truth about Mars.

NASA's missions remind me of product upgrade paths. Even if something can be done right now, they save it to sell for later.

The face on Mars is their biggest trump card. Taxpayers would give them unlimited funding to explore that area. Although I'm sure they have already been there and we just don't know about it.

Not seeing the image either...

Iron Fist 12-01-2008 07:25 AM

No Kidding... you'd think with the millions spent on space programs, they should just buy a professional camera for 50 grand and get some really nice pics.. but NOOOOOOooo... we gotta do it all ourselves and pay 100x the price for a piece of shit...

After Shock Media 12-01-2008 07:41 AM

Does anybody even follow the space program, damn...

Where is the Color hi-res or high def images?
Hey look it is also everything is a conspiracy theory kandah to and his superior knowledge of the truth.

Courtesy NASA - PS there is always much more of them and also in uncompressed .tiff formats.

As for circling an object and such. You all do realize that nobody just drives it with a joystick or anything right? Everything is super slow, and damn tedious - with each little step programed in before it can be sent to a rover for it to do. They also operate on a expected life and have to deal with the season changes of mars. If they know what something is, it has little interest, or whatever else that can slow down a mission it gets scraped.

People see what they want and hey it looks like a plank of wood so that must be the logical answer. Never mind the whole temperature extremes and fluctuations, the hurricane like dust/sand/iron oxide storms, and anything else that would well destroy and decay wood. Ya ok it must be petrified then, or well it could just be some more fucking rocks and minerals. Perhaps next everyone can freak about the round stones AKA blueberries on mars too.

Phoenix 12-01-2008 07:45 AM

hmm odd looking..petrified tree perhaps

maybe some kind of spore that grows low to ground and flat....i would love to see some sort of life on mars.

also looks like small vegetation on the ground...that pic looks like it came from arizona desert not martian soil...lol

ive always wondered why they didnt release some moss, the stuff that grows in the artic etc, stuff that grows in deserts...just let it out up there and see what happens

Slaps face own forehead.
Long night, off to bed. Have fun with the martian wood.

Point the hubble at it... the friggin thing can take high res pics, IR pics and a ton of other kinds of pics of galaxies that are thousands of lightyears away....
but they can't mount a friggin canon rebel to a rover to take a pic of something 5 feet away.
