I am looking for a new game, sick or World of Warcraft (MMORPG Gamers Inside Pls)

I have been playing WoW on and off for a few years now. I have abunch of high level characters and even with the release of Wrath of the Lich King I grew quickly bored. I know, I'm a geek in my downtime. Anywho...

I have been eyeballing a game called Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and was curious if anyone here has tried it and could give me your overall experience? I have read various forums and what not, but I get mixed feedback so i thought I might try here.

i know there has to be a at least a few gaming geeks here. Thank in advance :thumbsup

Everyone I know who tried WAR came back to WOW the next month. Same happened with AOC.

All the new mmorpgs are kind of lame. If you can handle an old one try Eve Online or Anarchy Online.

Im loving Warhammer. All the wow fan boys try and talk down about it because its the only game they typically can compare it to. Ive played since beta and it gets better with each update.

I am a very casual player when compared to the typical mmo junkie and WAR has been perfect for the days I want to log in find some action for an hour and then move on and do something else. I also like that its a bit darker then wow and you have to actually watch your back in pvp.

Machete_ 01-06-2009 09:16 AM

Warhammer is great if you are in to REAL RPG and not just a loot-whore. It have more of a storyline than any other game

I tried AOC - and that was a joke - it "zones" when you enter a house, so if you go in through the wrong door, you have to watch the 10-15 seconds "loading zone" screen several times before you can get out, and in to the right door

I renewed my WoW account for a month to lvl at least two of the toons to 80 - the only reason was because I'm gonna try and sell it. That way the time spend ingame will not be a complete waste. DONT aske me how much /played time I have

Most out there at the moment is just the same old shit in a new boxing. The grafx is not even to good.

Bloated interfaces and repetitive actions.

At the moment the only game i play is GRID (racing), but I hope something good will show up before summer

Carmine Raguso 01-06-2009 09:21 AM

Great responses thus far. Ok, I am guessing that I am gonna drop the fifty bucks on the game and give it a shot.

One more quick question, does the box come with a 30 day free trial or am I forced to pay the $15 for my first month out of the box?

I called gamestop in the area and the prepubescent guy gave me the old, "I think so but I never played. Most of `em come with a 30 day free trial..."

I was done with him and hung up lol.

I also looked online but didn't see anything. Is there a certificate or something in the box with a serial? Not trying to be too cheap but would hate to go from 50.00 to 65.00 only for a let down in the event i hate it. (EDIT)

Truth. I have collectors editions of both. I couldn't resist the hype of them being "WoW killers" and both games were just that...HYPE. Warhammer could have been a WoW killer but I didn't know anyone who was playing. All of my friends stayed with WoW. The gameplay and story are amazing.

WOW meets Final Fantasy... it's free to play but you have upsales, end up costing the same as wow.

Warhammer ended up sucking, in my opinion. The first few hours it was awesome, but things like the lack of balance quickly ended up killing it.

AoC... not even worth talking about.

WoW after WotLK has just become more of the same stupid grind, only easier. It took me only a few weeks to turn an old level 63 ret pally into an 80 with full epics. The fact that it's easy is not the problem, though. The real problem is that it combines a heavy required time investment with progress that goes far too quickly.

LOTRO is like a lesser version of WoW - not really worth playing.

The only great MMORPG out there right now is Eve Online. Its only problems are that gameplay can be rather boring at times, and that it's a very specific genre. Progress, difficulty, player effect on the game world, etc. are all executed better than in virtually any other game.

An upcoming game with great potential is The Old Republic. It's being developed by Bioware and they claim it's story-driven instead of grind-driven. If they can keep that promise, it might become the first MMORPG to really surpass WoW.

Yeah, I agree with the others, Warhammer did seem exciting at first and fun, but then it wore off quickly. It has a lot of neat ideas, but not enough to beat out WoW.

The thing I liked about Warhammer was that you could just walk into an area and you'd automatically be grouped up with the other people in the area to do a quest. The only thing I wonder now is that once things have died down over there, how the hell are you gonna do those lower quests when there's nobody in those areas any more.

Cyandin 01-06-2009 10:18 AM

It doesn't satisfy the MMO of MMORPG, but Oblivion is awesome imho.

Kron 01-06-2009 11:40 AM

nah, there is no alternative to wow, still best

Baring a total fuckup, Knights of the Old Republic should do well. It's Star Wars and Bioware, something good is bound to come from it.

I'm also looking forward to Stargate Worlds. I'm a total Stargate geek.

I play Warhammer Online - I think it is a superior game to WoW. So I reccomend it...

I don't like all that sci-fi stuff or I would be all over eve online. I'm liking WoW again because it seems like less of a grind now. Getting to 80 was a pleasure. Epics are easier to come by so getting geared takes much less time. The days of feeling like I had to play 8+ hours of WoW at a time just to compete are behind me I think.

I play a feral druid and with the buffs we got with wotlk I am really having fun again. The only classes I have trouble with are plate-wearers...especially those fucking ret paladins. :1orglaugh

*shakes head and tuts.

There is only one option for the informed gamer. And its none of the above.

Entropiauniverse.com
Entropiauniverse/planet calypso is a MMOPRG with a real cash econamy. Its set in the future so no elves or orcs here.
1 dollar gets you 10 PED. And its a two way street.. you can take money out of the game aswell as put it in. You can hunt/mine/craft/all the usuals. Skills can be transfered or sold. In game auction...ect And for all you FPS.. we have LOOTABLE PVP

Speaking for myself i have played for 4 years. 2 of those years i was a "depositer" spending about 100 bucks a month. But that was my choice.. my level of gameplay, i could have spent much less.
2 years ago i stopped putting my own money into the game and started playing by my wits. last year I earnt/won 20 thousand dollars.

BradM 01-06-2009 12:58 PM

The Old Republic looks elite.

I just hope they don't shaft the cock out of it like Lucas did to SW Galaxies. Man that game used to rock before the infamous gameplay change.

My buddy is on the dev team for that game, sadly the company was hit pretty hard by the economic downturn so everything is pretty much on hold. It should be a pretty fun casual MMO once it does come out.

John-ACWM 01-06-2009 02:30 PM

I guess you are all for the online gaming...Anyway, I loved Assassin's Creed. Best of 2008

Rebel D 01-06-2009 02:35 PM

Being a long time gamer you need to think hard about warhammer. If you enjoy pvp action it may be worth it. I personally found the content very sparce. LOTRO wasn;t bad but slow leveling(not everquest slow but still)

UO is still for me the Best Online game ever.

Am I the only one on this damn site who plays FFXI and finds it FAR superior to WoW? checkers:chess::wow:ffxi

SarahLLO 01-06-2009 09:32 PM

I've never played any MMORPG, but Shin Megami Tensei just launched one and I'm tempted to try it since I love the Persona games and Digital Devil Saga was pretty fun.

I downloaded the beta and installed it but I haven't tried playing yet.

I will second this one.
I have been in it since beta, before the first continent was finished.
I have deposited now and again but over all have profited a bit over $7k since starting.
Haven't hit the big one yet :Oh crap
