OSHA is currently interviewing employees at one of the larger talent agencies today. From what has been reported, After a complaint by a male talent who requested a condom on a shoot, was told it was non-condom and could walk, chose to shoot without a condom and contracted an STD, OSHA is now trying to figure out who's to blame when porn talent comes down with STD?s. Since Agencies work for and are paid by their talent, talent cannot be considered employees. However, this is going to get interesting for the production companies who do cut checks to talent.

OSHA is federal govt.. They can pretty much shut down any business in the US. My mom had a staff leasing company for a while and we went through hell with OSHA because of a disgruntled employee.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They are the feds who make it necessary to hang those stupid signs in the bathrooms telling employees to wash their hands before returning to work. They can literally come in and shut your business down. They are basically the rule Nazis for every rule you could conceive for working in this country.

Most folks don't know about OSHA unless they work some kind of labor-type job, like a wrench turner or construction worker, but they can shut down Starbucks or your corner store just as fast...They are to be recognized and FEARED in this industry, but only if you're running a business...which is just about everyone on this board. So how do you go from the LA DOH investigating a single case to your statement that ALL production companies are going to be visited in the near future by OSHA? Did you actually talk to someone at OSHA? I can't believe that they would just volunteer information as to who they plan on investigating. :Oh crap

we had this drama during the 'porn aids crises' a few years ago. the word was osha was going to visit sets and arrest producers not using jimmy hats on set and no more facial without protective gear, goggles etc..... be interesting to see how it goes this time...

That is just being plain retarded. OSHA has been around for a long ass time. They always have been busting and investigating businesses. Typically when they get their sights set on a business that business is going to get fucked in someway no matter what. I am fairly certain there is no way to comply with all of their rules without violating other rules.

I had a pissed of customer make some false reports to OSHA when I had my comic shop. They showed up and just found shit to fine me on, like they could not actually think of leaving without fining me. They came in on some false reports, nothing that was even reported was wrong yet they started poking around and well I ended up with a list of shit to fix and a little over 2500.00 in fines. Worst part was I got hit for some accessibility issues which was just plain fucked up.

this removes all fantasy, not many like to see condom porn. And keep in mind, once they start forcing condoms, that WILL INCLUDE BLOWJOBS.

I have always thought this should be the rule. Too many people see porners fucking without wraps and think it's a good idea.

Ok, it's looking like the guy talent angle was some bad info, they were talking about a different incident. It now appears to be a female talent that contracted the STD and OSHA will be hitting every agency in town even tho' they know which agency she was contracted with. That was verbatim from an employee that was interviewed by OSHA at this first agency. They are definitely looking for Productions Companies and Producers info.

I do like your stories as they often lead somewhere but man could you please fact check and then check those facts out before pushing the story out there. It just comes off as poor journalism and makes people question your stories when published. I know the net moves fast and there are two other news sources to deal with. I would just rather see one solid source over a rushed source who is more concerned with getting stories out than the facts of the story.

It's a huge gamble and a lot of talent is both - dumb and unreliable.

I checked with 2 sources before I ran the original piece. The story remains the same, just the fact of male/female talent changed, and I corrected it as soon as I heard. I don't think that has a big impact on the rest of the story.

I was told that it was LA County Health Department and not Cal-OSHA. Though, Cal-OSHA might get involved at a later date.

So far I have been advised that 2 agencies have been asked for information on producers and have not yet provided any information to LA County Health and are currently investigating their options.

I am currently looking into what options the talent agents may have in this matter...

I heard--from a very good source--that OSHA had visited a couple of agencies and wanted records of which talent worked specific days for some companies. Both agencies (apparently) refused to release the information. This may be just a temporary respite... expect the Feds to be on the case.

I bet they are pissed off about that 5 billion dollar bailout request...
