'Girls Gone Wild' founder arrested in LA court
LOS ANGELES – "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis has been arrested in Los Angeles after he showed up five hours late for a court hearing in his tax evasion case.
When the adult-video entrepreneur finally appeared in court on Monday afternoon, he told the judge he was suffering from the flu. Francis' attorney Melissa Weinberger says U.S. marshals then handcuffed Francis and took him away. Francis is accused of claiming more than $20 million in bogus business expenses on his corporate tax returns, including $3.8 million for a home in Mexico and $10.4 million in phony consulting services. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of federal tax evasion. The hearing was to consider a request from his tax attorneys to recuse themselves. |

Maybe Joe should be asking for a "get out of jail free pass" and then maybe he will stop asking for the 5 billion dollar bailout.

The reason Francis was supposed to be in court was because his latest legal team wants nothing more to do with him (this is the firm that successfully got Wesley Snipes off from his tax evasion charges).
In a Daily Journal story published Monday, Francis lashed out at his former lawyers, who filed a motion to withdraw from the tax case in mid-December. "The only reason they wanted me [as a client] was to mooch off me and open up an L.A. office," Francis told the Daily Journal. "The Bernhofts are the Paris Hilton of lawyers--just to be famous, not to do anything." So why did he hire the firm in the first place?!? Oh yeah, and I don't think Paris is going to like that comment referencing her as just trying to be famous without doing anything of substance to earn her fame (however true it might be, LOL). http://www.theblackxmas.com/wp-conte...oe_francis.jpg This appears to be just another stalling tactic by Francis to postpone the inevitable... http://www.collegecandy.com/wp-conte...ph-francis.jpg ADG |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Snipes On April 24, 2008, Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison for willful failure to file federal income tax returns under 26 U.S.C. § 7203.[21][22][23] While defense lawyers urged leniency, prosecutors argued that Snipes should be made an example of because of his fame. As of February 2008, a home owned by Snipes in Florida is subject to delinquent property taxes of over $15,000. |
