We spoke about this yesterday on GFY and it is coming now..........................

Sirius XM Radio Inc has been working with its advisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing, the New York Times reported on its website on Tuesday, citing people close to the company.
It was talked about on this board that it may not survive this year and it just came about.
I would not be surprised if they lost a huge portion of their revenue due to this economic storm and people canceling service even if they have to pay a cancellation fee.
This economy is really fucking everyone left and right.

even if they declare bankruptcy the radio will be on the air, it is just a restructuring isn't it?

Sirius isn't going out of business because of the eco... They were going out of business WAY before the eco issues came around.

nation-x 02-11-2009 06:29 AM

Their model is fucked... they should have gone with an ad revenue model for free members (like basic cable) with upgrade channels.

No Shit! I was pissed when they got rid of XM 82. Now I just go back and forth between 80 and 81, and sometimes 83.

Sirius isn't going anywhere - just because a company files for Chapter 11 doesn't mean they're closing their doors and turning off the satellite. They're looking to restructure. The purpose of this move it says in the report I read is to force Echostar to buy Sirius now.

i wonder if they're going to be asking people like Howard Stern who've they signed to crazy contracts to restructure their contracts. I think Howard would have to take less money, I can't see him going back to syndicated FM radio now.

tranza 02-11-2009 06:57 AM

I dont think they ever really got off the ground did they? They just hovered there for a long time not really going anywhere.
