Kinda sad considering that local newspapers' inability to tap into online classifieds is part of the reason for local papers' demise.

Not enough critical mass to sustain interest and usability if you get too small and localized.
Even now at huge popularity levels some of the city-level CL subsites are barely worth visiting. :2 cents:

True. It's an arms race kinda like email spam. Although GMAIL is doing pretty good at filtering.

Good point, but I'm talking about standalone sites not a supersite like CL.
