Digg takes a dump on linkbaiting

Linkbait articles are great for getting backlinks. Not if you use Digg: http://www.blogstorm.co.uk/digg-just...lled-linkbait/

What is linkbait?

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-07-2009 12:05 AM

that might take care of people using digg spam as a method for backlink building, but it doesn't stop using digg as a method of traffic generation. well played by digg i say. will take care of a lot of senseless spamming.

That's a joke right?

@ OP - This seems to be what everyone is aiming at these days. Keep all the traffic within their site.

I can see why Digg is doing it, keeps people on their site/other methods of displaying advertisements etc... but at the same time most if not all people who use Digg click links read/look then return to Digg for more links....

There are still other big link directorys to submit too who don't have this BS toolbar :2 cents:

My problem with it is the fact they will be ranking their site for your content. Their site carries a lot of weight in the search engines so if you make a blog post, and it's dugg, most likely they are going to outrank you for the content. Might even wipe your page out because of duplicate content.

all this means is you have to change your digg strategy. :2 cents: it's just a frame, use a framebreaker. if the framebreaker won't do the trick for you, use digg's authority to your advantage and build digg lp's specifically for ranking your digg url in the serps as you would a squidoo lense or a hubpages hub.

don't hate the game, play it...

d-null 04-07-2009 02:03 AM

if Google had their shit together, Digg's techniques would be looked at as sort of a blackhat method and they would ban all but the homepage of Digg.com completely from the serps :2 cents:

Makes sense.

Fuck Digg. don't get any joy from that site whatsoever.

There are over 500 sites like it and not using digg isn't going to make a blind bit of difference.

I think it's great... Why the fuck should a company like Digg allow spammers to spam the shit out of their sites to make money? Do you let people spam your sites to make money? No... If you want to ride of their coat tails, play by their rules.

TheDoc 04-07-2009 07:06 AM

Another nail in the Digg Coffin... a few more and they should be ready to drop into the dirt.

Manowar 04-07-2009 07:09 AM

they keep feature creeping and they will become a 'portal' style site and start losing visitors

Other than Spammers also submit good shit, and if you take the spammers away from Digg - All the good shit is going to be gone. Making them just another lame ass news source of the same repeated articles that everyone else has.

Anyone using Digg for traffic - Kinda retarded... but now that no value is passed, the entire thing is useless. News wise, Mixx and many others are better than Digg - but at least you could get 'other shit' with Digg - but that other shit, was spam.

Do you see Digg hopping on the NO FOLLOW bandwagon anytime soon?

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-07-2009 01:56 PM

i think there's a lot of over reaction to this move by digg. no, this is not the 'end of digg'. it is not the end of spammers on digg, or the end of digg's usefulness to webmasters. or is it? the sky is falling!

I love the new digg bar... get a bunch of links, point to digg url...make $$$

I'll be selling a 97$ ebook for those of you who have no clue how to rape this system to your advantage.

$5 submissions 04-08-2009 04:42 PM

I read somewhere that between 30 to 50 sites 'monopolize' the digg frontpage.

thinkhype 04-08-2009 05:56 PM

yeah thats a bitch

as someone who builds up retarded amounts of traffic quickly from viral content... i would say this doesn't matter at all. if you have anything worth sharing.. then digg is just a jumping off point and a way to get eyes and to get people sharing. the links are worth next to nothing anyway and are only indexed for a brief time and so on.

Good point. Fresh and compelling content is the key. However, this does increase the size of the speed bump to get content viralized.
