small plane emergency landing on the street (vid - cockpit view)

happened few days ago in Florida

That was a cool video. I'm glad they made down safe, kinda surprised how calm they were.

pornguy 04-24-2009 06:01 AM

Yeah just a few things I dont get about that video.. the length of time it takes him to try and restart after the first stall, you never really notice him talking on the radio. He restarts and then turns back RIGHT away for a populated area, when he could have circled an empty field for a few min to make sure it would stay running.

Elixir 04-24-2009 06:19 AM

That was really great pilot. Like it :)

I have my private pilots license and you train for stuff like that.
The pilot keep his air speed to high, but other than it was a great emergency landing.

Rochard 04-24-2009 08:04 AM

Kind of neat how calm he was.....

rowan 04-24-2009 09:46 AM

I LOL'd when he parked it like a car at the end...

The cars going in the other direction must have got a fright. :D

I'm not a pilot so this is just a guess but it looks like they were flying fairly low, probably so the guy with the camera could get some good aerial shots. It was less than a minute between the first failure and landing so I'd say he didn't really have much choice, he had to consider landing immediately.

_Richard_ 04-24-2009 10:03 AM

hahaha 'fuck the wing'

kowalsky 04-24-2009 10:05 AM

wow, what calm he was! The speed were very high for a small plane, and even that he landed perferctly...

Ozarkz 04-24-2009 02:27 PM

I wonder if he ended up hitting the wing.

That was pretty damn amazing. I would have pee'd.

I'm an ex air traffic controller and a pilot. The first thing you do in an emergency, is fly the fucking plane. There is really no point in spending your time talking to an air traffic controller that absolutely cannot help you with the emergency that you are having.

Do whatever you have to do to handle your situation, and worry about talking on the radio last because in an emergency, your first priority is fly the plane. You can talk on the radio after you land.

Cool video, thanks for sharing! :thumbsup

This is what I thought exactly. If you are trying to save your ass why would you be on the radio, they were already at a low alt and didn't have time nor anyone to do it for him. If you are careening out of control in you car you do not get on the phone to call somebody. GFY Experts on Everything hard at work... :1orglaugh

rowan 04-24-2009 06:04 PM

Looking at it again he did the second restart pretty late... if it came up and seemed to be working, then failed, he wouldn't have had any height margin left? Then again perhaps even a few sec gave some extra needed lift... I'm no pilot. :thumbsup

SilentKnight 04-24-2009 07:28 PM

I remember a small plane landing a few hundred yards ahead of me on I-5 years ago. That was not something I was expecting.

John-ACWM 04-25-2009 07:40 AM

it was hard to tell if he lowered his flaps, but i think he might have before he tried to restart the engine which is why there was such a pause between failure and first restart..

i used to fly and first rule of engine failure is maintain your airspeed..

thats nuts!!!

That was a fucking brilliant landing

After Shock Media 04-25-2009 04:12 PM

About a month ago we had a small plane land on a street near us as well. What was fairly interesting was that even though it is a 4 lane street with traffic in each direction. The drivers of the cars seemed to take notice that the plane was approaching and everyone pulled their cars to the side of the road to allow for the plane to land in the road. Everyone was fine and the pilots knew they could not reach the airport which was about 2 miles away (well maybe a little less than a mile by air).

collegeboobies 04-25-2009 08:38 PM

I dont even use airports, I just takeoff in my backyard field and land on the nearest road. The cops get pissed and I've caused 4 accidents
