God damn I hate PDF documents

So I'm searching for something in Google, first link appears to be what I'm looking for so I click it (the URL didn't even list a .pdf file it is .html?something), then the Adobe reader bullshit opens. I am always skeptical when this happens so I immediately hit ctrl+alt+del. By that time the reader had still not opened yet so red flags are going off in my head and then I suddenly see like 3-4 instances of C:\WINDOWS\system32\jake.exe running! Along with a few other suspicious things.

This thing created a virus with the filename as my computer username :disgust , and I couldn't close them. I load up msconfig real quick and uncheck all the shit this thing has just placed into the startup menu. Of course it's impossible to keep them unchecked so I just restart my computer and goto safe mode. Safe mode starts booting and it stops saying I'm missing "hal.dll".:mad::mad:

Eventually I get safe mode to work thank god and open spybot s&d which then removes a bunch of trojans and downloaders that got installed. Run hijackthis afterwards and it doesn't see anything bads (thanks to spybot).

Now I'm going to completely uninstall this Adobe shit, I can't stand PDF documents in the first place, they're such a pain in the ass to deal with it's not even fucking funny.

Yes PDF is the Devils tools!

I hate PDF too. I never thought it was going to have such a long life...

Did you have the latest version of reader installed? If I remember correctly there was a critical update released a couple of months ago.

Perhaps the reader opening was actually a red herring, something the web page or trojan launched to try to make you think that a wait for something to happen was normal...

If Adobe's PDF viewer is your default PDF, I understand why you have grown to HATE PDFs. Adobe's PDF Viewer is a memory hog, it's too big to load. Dump that piece of shit and try FOXIT PDF READER. Lighter, faster, and not a pile of crap like Adobe's PDF reader.

pdfs are the reading tool of the devil.

Annoyingly, here in Canada - many governmental depts. still use .PDF format for documents.

And much of the time they don't warn in advance that it's a PDF (not even with the hover-over).

Just about any "official" forms online use PDF's, which I struggle and fail to understand.

I use Foxit, but don't love it. Not sure what it is, but just not feeling it.

PDF is a document type that will always keep it dimensions regardless of your OS, screen and font settings. It will make sure you 2 page document is not suddenly 4 pages on one computer then 3 pages on the next and then in the end when you get it back, ½ of every form field is missing because the end of the form was removed by a different margin setting than you have.

I'd love a W-9 PDF with editable fields so I could fill the fucking thing in before printing. Is that so much to ask for? If the DMV can do it, why can't the IRS?

EXACTLY! The shit is so not practical to use. It's like when you goto the store and see the clerks still using computers with the old non-graphic text only screens.. WTF?

If you are using XP I understand why you're having problems.

Vista IE8 opens PDF docs seamlessly. So does Vista Safari.

Holy shit! That foxit pdf reader is something else! Love it.
