Federal law mandates that inmates have the same level of access to healthcare as people who aren't in jail. Basically, its means a criminal gets free healthcare the moment they are incarcerated.


If a criminal gets free healthcare, why can't a hard working tax paying American get free healthcare.

Yup, Michael Moore already covered that in his last movie. It's a real shame and a travesty to the system.

Its sucks because the county I live in has to budget the healthcare cost which causes my property taxes to go up.

County jails are responsible for 100% of the cost. If an inmate has a sniffle they get to see the doctor.

And you believe they get the same level of health care??

Well if we go down that road, they don't get paid the minimum wage either.

Inmates get three square meals a day, a bed to sleep on and many other benefits like an education.

Bernard Madoff gets the same level of treatment as anyone with healthcare insurance but for free.

Do they get condoms for free?

If they get *ANY* health care at all, it is 100% more healthcare than a lot of people get.

I'm not convinced that universal health care is the absolute answer... but I do think that it is a crock of shit that inmates (people that are supposedly being punished for a crime) and also federal employees (that *WE* pay for) have better access to more affordable healthcare than the rest of us.

honestly the US health care system is so fucked up.

i bought health care with blue cross and it would continue to go up about $20 or so every 3 months and I NEVER go to the doctor or had any problems, so I canceled it. I got atena shortly after and they refused to pay for a visit to urgent care when i was sick. they said the nurse didn't submit the right request and they wont pay for it. so now im between fighting with the urgent care place and atena

shit, next time im getting sick im just going to go punch a cop in the face to get a few days in jail and free health care :1orglaugh

Except for the USA, every civilized country on the planet has single payer health care. Every one. Maybe, just maybe, there's a good reason why they all chose that route (2 cents).

I have been locked up for an extended period of time... you obviously have not.

Three square meals = enough food for a 3rd grader that will permanently fuck up your digestive system... I know because it did mine.

Yes... you get a bed to sleep in... it's a 2-3 inch thick plastic covered thing with flame retardent treated paper fiber inside on top of a 1/8 inch steel bunk. Your pillow is made of the same material. You get a fitted sheet, a top sheet and a gray wool blanket that makes you itch... but you get used to it after awhile.

Most states have ended GED programs for inmates in the early 90s and they stopped college courses in Michigan in 1988.

Health care... you are correct... they give you free health, dental and eye care. You had better hope what you have doesn't require medication because if ibuprofen doesn't solve it your fucked unless what you have might spread to other inmates or it is death threatening. Other than that... too bad. Health care in prison is only to keep you alive and prevent the spread of disease within the prison system.

Dental... if you have a dental problem that is causing health issues... they will pull your tooth and give you some ibuprofen. Report to work the next day.

Eye care = if you need glasses they will provide a pair of the ugliest glasses on earth and it will take 8 weeks to get them.

Anyone says that it is any different is lying. There are alot of clinics around that will give most people discounts on office visits... there is one here that we use and it's a helluva lot cheaper than going to a regular doctor. All you have to do is call your local Health Dept and they will tell you where the family clinics are.

No... sex is prohibited...
