Decent Carry/Pocket Knife?

I recently snapped the pocket clip dealy off my SOG by brushing a table... totally pissed me off but whatever.

Anyone have any suggestions on a decent carry knife? Budget is about 200-250 bucks and preferably "assisted" open

fuzebox 06-16-2009 03:07 PM

I've always been partial to Spyderco.

CamDoughCommando 06-16-2009 03:11 PM

Hell, u can get a decent .380 just as small and do a hell of a lot more damage.

If you need a purely utilitarian Swiss Army knife, this one should take care of most of your needs:

If you are also planning to use if for self-defence, then I recommend this one:

I carry this -

Small and sharp enough to be useful, decent quality, and cheap enough to be disposable.

If I'm hiking or something and may need to cut off my own leg:

In case you need to stick a motherfucker, I know what you mean.

I like the "Arc Lock" on my SOG mini x-ray. I've had it for about 3 years.

Benchmade on some of their knives has the same locking system. Not exactly assisted but you can flip it open with a flick of your wrist.

That's cool looking. How long is the blade?

Gausche 06-16-2009 10:24 PM

i've seen some benchmade ones that were over 400 bucks. The knives that run cheap are cheap materials. I can't even count the number of cheap knives I've busted doing "easy" stuff. Hell, bent one cutting open one of those asshole plastic casings they put things in lol

It's small - um, 2.5inches maybe? But it's durable .25 thick.

Real stag handle, high carbon steel. My Moore Maker is going to pass down to my son and to his son after that. These bad boys are heirlooms, not just knives, and they sharpen to surgical levels.

I love Benchmade. Also, SOG will mail you a replacement clip if you call them. First one of free.

jakethedog 06-17-2009 05:40 PM

I have always carried a simple little pocket knife .. cheap and effective .. does the simple job .. anything more $$ and I always seem to loose them .. this was about $10 .. but it has been in my pocket for 2 yrs and been used almost daily for something .. (nothing life saving ..)
