2 year old girl just killed by family pet Python

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. -- A 2-year-old girl was killed in Sumter County when a pet Burmese python strangled her Wednesday morning. An official with Florida Fish and Wildlife confirmed the death.
The incident took place at a home on County Highway 466 between Lady Lake and Oxford (see map). The call for assistance came it just before 10:00am.
According to officials, the victim's father had locked the pet snake up in a cage Tuesday night, but when he awoke Wednesday he found the snake on the little girl and she had a bite mark.
Officials said the father then repeatedly stabbed the python. The snake was found under a dresser when deputies arrived.
The victim's parents were identified as 23-year-old Jaren Ashley Hare and Charles Jason Darnell.

This is a very sad new! They shouldn't keep this kind of pet near the children!

So far they haven't said much other than the child had bite marks on her forehead but
it would have been very easy for that 12 foot Burmese Python to swallow the child and I'm sure that was it's intent.

Why peole have snakes as pet at all is beyond me. Without seeing a picture I would guess white trash, tramp stamp along with several other tatoos, smokes, on government assitance also probably has mysterious bruises in odd places on her body, lives at or near a trailer park.

Unbelievable. If you are a fan of snakes there are plenty of species which are not dangerous. You can also stunt their growth so they will not grow to be 12 feet. They are seriously irresponsible people on many levels.

I saw some video of the snake on the news. It was an albino burmese python and measured 8 1/2 feet. TV reporter said the guy just had a cloth over the top of the cage secured by a rope and the python just pushed it up and escaped.

They also said the boyfriend had lost his own daughter a few years ago to spinal meningitis.

The family is just about how GatorB described and officers found drugs in the home
during their investigation. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a disaster :(
