I'm winning my fight against the Big C.

Just been chatting with a content store customer on ICQ who was asking about my progress against cancer. So I decided to let everyone here know the latest news.

I WILL BE AROUND FOR A LOT LONGER. :)

For those who don't know. In February I was diagnosed with advanced cancer in the base of my tongue. What I did not know then was the doctors did not give me a good chance of beating it. But they started me on advanced chemo therapy. I was an in patient as it was a 24 hour a day treatment with side effects. But I managed to come home for a few hours every day.

Three intense sessions and 6 months later the results are better than anyone expected. The tumor is so reduced that surgery is not required, it was seen as inevitable in the early months, and all I need now is 6 weeks of combined mild chemo, if there is such a thing, and radiation. A tough 6 weeks ahead, but I can take it.

Not a regular smoker, maybe 5-6 cigs a week when I went to the pub. This cancer is not one that comes from smoking. Not that anyone has been able to tell me why I got it.

MaDalton 07-09-2009 05:01 AM

Not as rare as some think. Viv Thomas had the same problem and gt it fixed.

The signs are a sore throat that does not go away, voice getting coarser and a lump on the side or inside the side of the neck. If you have any signs get scanned right away, I left it late and the medications were more severe.

Good to hear Paul, I know what your going through as I have had cancer twice in my life and beat it both times, well actually the Doctors did....:2 cents:

SZNY 07-09-2009 05:40 AM

Good news Paul, keep on strong!

viki 07-09-2009 05:50 AM

This is great news. Congratulations!

I read that cancer of the tongue/throat is much more prevalent now because of oral sex which you can contract HPV from and then cancer. It's just like how women get cervical cancer.

sexandcash 07-09-2009 05:53 AM

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis of cancer but very happy to hear that cancer treatment has been successful.

That's wonderful.

Always nice to hear about someone beating cancer. My sis-in-law beat it 5 years ago after about a 2 year fight, chemo, hair loss, the whole bit. She's now out in BC with my brother and living a wonderful healthy life at their lake house and tooling around the southern US in their A class RV 5 months of the year.

Kick it's ass Paul. :thumbsup

hypedough 07-09-2009 09:53 AM
