My prediction for "Business OF Pleasure" tonight on MSNBC
It should be interesting to see that "Business of Pleasure" thing on CNBC tonight. I bet when they started that show they were looking for a ratings-boosting-cock-swagger piece about rich pornographers and big-tittied pornstars, but after they researched the story for a bit they found the biz was headed to hell in a handbasket even faster than other sectors. That's when they knew they had a real story.
They probably saw was a bunch of scared people and a lot of phoney optimism, while everyone wondering where the next dollar will come from or looking are to exit the biz. The money has to come in from somewhere and as internet porno people (the current #1 form of distribution) we are at the top of the food chain. If the money is no longer trickling in from the top...where is it going to trickle too? This effects everyone, from production, talent, shooters, manufacturers, and most anyone who is heavily levaraged in the adult business - straight down the line! The really sad part is WE ARE DOING IT TO OURSELVES! All you tube loving idiots need to go die, like yesterday! Porn: Business of Pleasure Wed, Jul 15, 9:00p - 10:00p CNBC 2009 | 60 mins Inside the multibillion-dollar pornography industry; interviews with adult-film performers and company executives. |
Should be interesting.
|
I just launched a tube site... www.fallopiantube.com
|
Heh, I don't agree with ya on what it will be about Jay ....
Pink Visual and the TopBucks crew were very happy to be part of this. The CNBC crew came out to our offices and spent some time here, very cool to be featured in this. I think you will be pleasantly surprised ... at least I hope. : ) |
That's funny. I just started this same thread, with the same sentiment.
Great minds... lol! |
I will be on it speaking Live from a helicopter flying above LA singing michael jackson thriller and then speaking about how small the porn biz really is from a helicopter in downtown LA..
should be interesting... I will throw in a couple Plugs for XXX JAY and OC Cash ;- ) :thumbsup |
it will be fucking depressing and every time they throw out that bogus 13 billion dollar number based on nothing. I just roll my eyes.
|
just set my dvr to record it incase i forget to watch.. thanks for the heads up :thumbsup
|
i'd wager it will be the same as all the other porn *documentaries*
as much risque footage as possible, a brief bit about technology, a porn scape goat scum bag will be interviewed and lambasted and they will follow around a ponr star that tries to act normal while they ask her what her parents think and do the neighbors know and what will you tell your kids you do when they grow up and that's about it. |
Hey Jay. Is business that bad for you? The majority of posts I read from you give me the impression you are going out of business.
|
From my interview with them to the articles about the show tonight:
http://news.google.com/news/more?pz=...dKZEY gshIpgM It seems like they are getting a pretty realistic view of the porn industry and the state as it is and what you said, that a lot of the negative things we've done to ourselves. Now, of course, I think they are going to tie that in with some in your face gratuitious sex stuff to boost their own ratings. I'll record it tonight, but I don't want to see me (if they used me, who knows) live. ~Alli |

On the bright side in many cases the profit margins we made in the past were pretty insane and unheard of. It was bound to happen at some point. |
I have this feeling that they will paint it like a lot of people do and try to show us as an industry that takes advantage of people then it will move on to how the industry is in a downturn because of all the free porn out there. I think it is going to end up somehow making it look like there is so much free porn there is no way for your kids to avoid it so we are corrupting them.
When it is all said and done it will be a nice ad for the big tube sites. |
Shrug some of the highlights on http://www.cnbc.com/id/29960781/ look reasonable.
Porn Under Assault Porn profits are under assault. Official industry statistics are tightly guarded, but by some estimates DVD sales are down 50% from last year --- pounded by a weak economy, piracy and free or cheap porn available on the Internet. Women Behind the Scenes These days’ women aren’t just in front of the camera. They’re behind the scenes running studios, directing firms and starting the next generation of adult film companies. Plus the pornstar interviews, like Sasha Grey is pretty well spoken. |

There are so many facets to this industry but most tv spots about it stick to general standard ideas about porn, so it will be interesting to see what they do.
|
Of course I love tubes, how else would I jack off over all your hardwork for free?

I have to say... For a one man show I have made a lot of money with little to no investment except for my time. To this day it is the same but no where near the insane level of income for almost nothing. Now I actually have to do work.

It was easily the most positive piece about porn I've ever seen on TV. Would have been nice to see more internet companies featured though.
|
any show with alli from topbucks in it is worth watching

Sadly we did not get it over here. Sounds like a good show.
|
I thought it was pretty interesting... caught a couple cameos from GFY regs..
Ama Joe chatting with Max, Liz demonstrating the real touch... Got it recorded to watch again later, but didn't catch anything I wasn't happy with about the special besides once again giving away tube names to the 3 people that didn't already know them. |
Porn - The Business of Pleasure
By MikeSouth I watched the CNBC special and was oddly surprised. Partially by the lack of any any honest verification of what was presented as fact, but mostly by the fact that it was biased…..Towards us. They trotted out the old horse shit numbers, 13 billion dollars a year, blah blah blah. A porn made in Porn Valley every thirty six seconds, and something like 38,000 dollars a second being spent on internet porn. then they g on to talk about how porners have fallen on hard times blaming it mainly on “tube sites” and” filesharing”. Steve Hirsch remarks about the piracy issue as though it is the responsibility of someone other than him and his company to police the internet for people posting his content. They also trotted out the usual suspects, Wicked, Digital Playground and Vivid and Jesse Jane. Who all pretty much stuck to the script. they overlaying tone was that of women in the industry and as such you would have thought that Samantha Lewis runs Digital Playground, Joy King runs Wicked and there are few if any men left in power in porn. No mention at all of Ali Joone or Steve Orenstein. The only company with no female representation was Vivid., they let Steve Hirsch do the talking there. They did a segment with Jesse Jane “back home” in Oklahoma where they come to the errant conclusion that top girls in the biz make 30K a month. That’s a very wrong fact, top girls in porn can make that in a week feature dancin, not counting all the other avenues for making money. The surprises were a pretty kid glove treatment of Max Hardcore and his, at the time, upcoming trip to Club Fed and the common sense approach Joy King used in her lengthy segment. Joy is good. The truth for all to see moment came from Steve hirsch, who said that porn has been around since the days of cavemen and it isn’t going anywhere. |
I wonder how much traffic has spiked to all the sites they mentioned.
|
all 5 tube sites which were mentioned got a boost of traffic yesterday (if you check alexa)

"Tightly guarded"? Nothing in our business is "guarded" (it used to be until a few years ago) All they had to do was read GFY and all the posts on here that have revealed how our business works to anybody that wants to know. :1orglaugh |
For those that missed it or want to watch it again, it's on hulu.
