A Day In The Life

John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock
(MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 am.

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA)
was perking, he shaved with his
electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG)

He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans
(MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA)

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet
(MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his
calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN)
to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car
(MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with GAS (from Saudi Arabia)
and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end of yet another discouraging
and fruitless day checking his Computer (made in MALAYSIA),
John decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL),
poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE)
and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA),
and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job
in AMERICA

AND NOW HE'S HOPING HE CAN GET HELP FROM A PRESIDENT
MADE IN KENYA.

I'd love to comment - however its late (12:29am according to the clock made-in-China next to me).

Dr Marc Faber a famous investment Analyst, often on CNBC and Bloomberg, said something similar but I like his conclusion better...

"The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China. If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer/Software it will go to India. If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US. I've been doing my part. "

The content I decided to post is not meant to offend, but to serve as a harsh reminder. Its not to alienate but to educate. As a society, we the people have failed ourselves. Its short sided to "always" go outside the USA for cheaper labor and cheaper products. There is uneven balance in trade that takes place between the US and other countries.

I dont mind indirectly supporting the good people of China, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, etc..., but I would rather support the Chinese, French, German, Mexican and Brazilians that are living here in the US.

Pick a store in your area. Look for products that are "Made in America/Made in USA". You will find a few items, but I bet 95% are made anywhere but here.

Am I living by some hardfast rule of buying into everything that is American. NO

I imported the wife and the car from Europe. :winkwink:

I've outsourced a lot of projects to India, Pakistan, Ukraine, Russia, Phillipines, and Canada. I still do, but have cut back a great deal. More than half of the work done now is by those here in the US.


And as far as taking me seriously .......please dont! I dont take myself seriously either :)
