Some people shouldn't own Pets
So.. we're having a heatwave in Seattle. Hit a new record high today at 103 degrees.
I'm running errands this afternoon..parked in partial shade next to an SUV similar to mine, ran into the store and game back out to hear whining. I realized that it was a dog in the vehicle next to mine. I couldn't believe it. I stood up on my running board and peek through the crack in their rear seat window to see not one but two dogs.. a husky and a huge akita. Both of them looked very distressed. The akita's tongue was so dry it looked cracked. I went into the store and they called over the intercom, but no one responded. I called the police who in turned called the Humane Society. The cops couldn't stand it so they slimjimmed the car door and got the dogs out so they could take them inside one of the air conditioned stores and we gave them water. The akita had to be carried. Finally the humane society showed up. At the same time, the dogs' owner comes running screaming about why someone let his dogs out. Cops arrested him for animal cruelty and the dogs were taken to a local vets by animal control. Someone took the temp inside the car after they'd opened the door. It was over 115 degrees.. and that was in the shade. No telling how long the dogs had been inside before I got there. I got a call tonight from the animal control officer wanting more info and was told that both of them were spending the night at the vets and would be held somewhere and very likely never released back to the owner. I really wish they'd put the guy inside his car tomorrow and let him sit there all day with no water. |
That's just fucked up, good thing you came there when you did and kudos for not just walking away!
|
That shit makes me so angry. Imagine sitting in a 115 degree car wearing a fur coat. Jesus christ, owner deserved everything they got - and GOOD on you for calling the cops, you did a great thing.
I never take my dog anywhere if I know I'll be in a store or out of the car for more than 10-15 minutes, and what I do is, I put on the A/C - then use my auto-starter to keep the car running while I'm in the store, so the car stays nice and cool in the summer (or nice and warm in the winter) then again, what kind of car thief would break into a car with what looks like a german shepherd, or in this case an akita (powerful powerful dog) and a husky (not quite as powerful as an akita I don't think, but still menacing to most people) - leave the damn car running if you have to...no one is gonna steal a car with a dog in it! |
Some people...makes you wonder.
|
wow, poor dogs. good for you for doing something about it!
|
Good job man, I'm glad the dogs are ok.
|
Good for you PK. To may people leave their animals in the car and they deserve to have their pets taken away. Pets deserve better then a dipshit for an owner.
|
good work!
|
I own two dogs myself and I thank you for doing what you did.
|
Yeah, I totally agree with you. Good work man!
|
Good on you for doing what you did. Poor dogs, specially with two in the car together and such big dogs as well.
|
Aren't those dogs meant for 'cold' environments anyway?
Good job btw |
Sad to hear that, poor dogs..

I used to work for a humane society in Kansas. Dogs locked in cars are pretty common. The police there don't mess around with that. If they can't get the door open with a slim jim, they will just break the window once they get the supervisor's ok. As soon as they find the owner, he goes to jail.
Some of my other favorites: -A guy came into the shelter with his 2 dogs and wanted to surrender them. Reason? He was going on vacation and didn't want to pay to board them. He was telling his crying kid "don't worry, we'll get more dogs when we get home." -A guy brought in his older dog that he had since she was a pup. He wanted to know if we'd trade him straight across for a puppy. He said all his dog wanted to do anymore was sleep. -One lady brings in 2 litters of kittens every spring. Usually the kittens are euthanized because no homes can be found for them. I asked her why she doesn't have the mother cats spayed and she told me it's too expensive and easier to just bring in the kittens. Fortunately last time she brought in kittens the animal pound agreed to charge her a $12 per kitten euthanasia fee thus making euthanasia more expensive than spaying. It's amazing how many idiots there are out there who shouldn't own pets but do. |
Good work mate

Excellent work, PK. As a dog owner/pet lover, what you did was a very noble and life saving gesture. I wish more people had your compassion.

If you have to stop anywhere and leave your pet in your car LEAVE THEM AT HOME.. what idots... tom |
good job.
|
way to go PK, I can't stand animal abusers!
|
Yep. Should throw his ass in the car covered in Fur.
|
In a society based on eating the flesh of animals, this is more than expected. This comes from a lack of compassion towards animals that starts at youth when kids are fed the flesh of animals for the first time.
go vegan |
coming soon, stiff penalties for animal cruelty is my bet.
|
Some people are brainless when it comes to keeping dogs. Nice to hear that somebody actually cared and did something about it... Nice one :thumbsup
|
You are a hero for those animals. I don't understand people that treat their animals like that.
If I bring my puppy out with me she goes in the store with me if I am not with anyone that can keep her in the car. Even if I am just running in for 5 minutes I take her with me. She is only 5 pounds and can literally get lost under my seats if left alone. I have never had anyone complain in a store yet because I just keep her in my arms. I also always have a container in the car for water for her. |
PK, did you get Maurice his email about the whitelabel last week?
|
fucked up, but you handled it well, good job :thumbsup
|
Poor dogs, Hopefully someone else will take better care of them. :(

You are a hero for those animals. I don't understand people that treat their animals like that.
i can`t understand too... |
Glad you saved the dogs, PK. You have a heart of gold.
|
Stupid idiot. Bravo on saving them.

i know most dont think about it, but please, research how many dogs die from people slamming on brakes, having a dog in front seat without seat belt is just as dangerous as leaving them in car, if not more. i just watched dog owner fly by me with dog hanging head out window, if they hit brakes, dog will be headless, cut off by window. |
This totally destroys the whole cat/dog theory... Good looking out PK.
Beth and I have this discussion with friends all the time... there are pet people... and pet owners. Pet owners need to be fully aware of what they are getting themselves into before adopting an animal, or retarded shit like this is bound to happen. Pet people, go out of their way to ensure the safety and wellbeing of any animal (or person for that matter in my short experience) around them. |

This has nothing to do with vegans... Simply a retarded douchebag dog owner... |
at least California has passed a law.
Thousands of dogs die every year from owners who think its cool to take dog everywhere with them, then hit the brakes. http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/...g_breeds/25865 It's a common practice among dog owners - taking our furry friend along when we travel by car is becoming easier, especially since motels and hotels are becoming "little dog friendly." Dogs can be spotted with their head hanging out the car window or perched on their owners lap, taking in the view, barking at passers-by or working the steering wheel. Just as people complain about a driver's lack of concentration because they are on a cell phone, having a dog running loose in the car can be a deadly distraction. Ever slammed on the brakes while driving and feel the force forward? Imagine turning your pet into a flying projectile through the front windshield. Or perhaps, it has already happened to your dog. Every year hundreds of dogs are injured, maimed or killed in car accidents. Just one vet in Colorado reported in 1998 he treated 91 dogs with car-related injuries - 13 died. Multiply that by hundreds of vets in the US. The numbers are staggering. |
My friends have two pitbulls, and they have special harnesses that the seatbelts hook into. She buckles them up in the back when she takes them anywhere. I'd totally never seen that before, but it seemed to work pretty good.
|
Poor puppies, thank you for doing what you did
|
Yeah, next time i see that I am just going to get my tire iron and break the window out....and wait for the car owner to call the cops.
|
Good on you PK!! Those dogs are so damned lucky that you came along.
|
omg thats so awful! they have so much fur, m proud of you! you did the right thing!

In fact I'll add that (I have no idea why this is but...) so many people who get dogs as pets seem to have absolutely NO clue in their head about how to raise or train them. Then when the dog behaves badly all they do is yell at them. If people would just take the time to learn how to train their dogs properly and also make sure they are safely secured when in the car, and not left in a hot car ever, there would be a lot fewer dog bite incidents (training takes care of that), fewer dogs getting hit by cars (again, training), less dogs dying of heat exhaustion in parked vehicles or dogs flying through front windshields of cars because they weren't offered some protection in the seat they're in. It's really not that difficult to train a dog and learn how to look after it properly but many owners would rather wallow in their ignorance and remain lazy and stupid, leave their dog in unsafe surroundings whenever they please, and yell at their pup like a mindless idiot until it hopefully learns on it's own...which it won't. There, I said it. Can you tell that stupid owners of pets are one of my pet peeves? |
and here I feel bad for my cats when I leave the house and turn the AC to 83
|
on behalf of these dogs... "Woof woof, lick lick..thank you for saving me from my stupid asshat of an owner"
i hate when i see this, me not being a pet owner still cant understand why people would do this.....i can understand 5-15mins if you leave the windows cracked or as mentioned the a/c running (afterall i agree, who is going to try anything with a big dog in the car staring at you)...but another thing that i cant understand and this is to small dog owners...why in the hell would you drive while letting your dog stand on your lap??? forget the fact that dogs will jump around and possible hit your steering wheel...what if you do get in an accident and the air bag deploys...youd be doing a face plant into your dog.... awesome job PK and glad you didnt just walk away saying "poor dogs"...owner deserves whatever gets thrown at him |
right on.. you go girl
|
Some people shouldn't own pets. Not at all. They simply don't know what's necessary for them at the most basic level. Food and water.
|
You did great :thumbsup

I hope they NEVER return to that fucking idiot who owned them before. I hate hearing stories like this. One was posted on here the other week of the cop who left his dog in the car and it died. People who are so irresponsible should face jail IMO... :2 cents: |
