Though he also might have said that if subscription models don't adapt to the times, they should die, for such was the great man's understanding of the ebb and flow of the markets.

Online subscription models made sense the moment technology allowed them, not least because people recognized them from their offline dealings. It was a proven form of interaction, which is why content-based businesses began replicating their offline subscription models online right from the start, with middling success.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE AFFILIATES GONE?

The ranks may be dwindling, but good recruits and loyal veterans remain valuable weapons in the online marketing arsenal.

Affiliates are the lifeblood of online marketing ? right?

Once upon a time, the answer to that question was so self-evident as to need no voice. Especially in the adult entertainment industry ? often credited with creating the virtual equivalent of a business model successfully employed for decades by brick-and-mortar companies like Amway and Avon ? recruiting, equipping and deploying an army of sales associates made the difference between rousing financial victory and inglorious defeat. Traditionally, affiliates composed the troops upon whose shoulders Web-based adult empires rose to prominence. Among the fields of cyberspace, some of the most successful affiliates even developed affiliate armies of their own.

Agreed.

Traffic, affiliates, among other related points have been interesting seminars at the conferences. Especially the programs detailing how they are moving to generating their own traffic in-house and becoming less defendant on affiliate, and whales.

With the reduction of affiliates going on, I wonder what will happen at shows, seems these shows are about 90% b2b and 10% webmasters. I remember less than 5 years ago it was the other way around.

My bad i just read a news article a couple days ago

Quote:

It seems that even porn is not immune from the recession. AVN Online, the offshoot of the trade publication Adult Video News, is ceasing publication. AVN Publisher Tony Lovett wrote to subscribers today saying, "This past year, the economic downturn has taken a harsh toll on industries across the board. Advertising budgets dwindled or disappeared altogether, and trade publications suffered as a consequence. At the same time, we at AVN Media Network began to see a consolidation of the industries."
