Any Wushu students here?
Thinking about enrolling at traditional Shaolin Kungfu school and beginning training, anyone here ever take this route of life?
|
why don't you try the fairy gumdrop rainbow method of fighting instead? It's at least equally as effective.
|
My desire to train has nothing to do with "fighting" and all to do with body and mind.
|
Somehow I can never picture anyone who knows things like Karate and Kungfu actually kicking anyones ass.
Take Boxing or Mixed martial arts or Kick Boxing. Or just take Yoga if you don't need fighting skills.. |

Ive always liked things like taichi as form of exercise, not only for body, but mind. has ZERo t do with "kicking someones ass" |
anyhoo, this is the school. The master is 31st generation Shaolin Temple decendant, trained at Shaolin temple, and its bee on my mind so I thought id ask if there was anyone who trained here. I know theres a few fighters here so i was curious
http://shaolin-world.net/ I may just start with Tai Chi and see where the road of life takes me. |
I did Shaolin Kempo kung-fu (Short Fist) for 3 - 4 years.
I quite enjoyed it. Never wanted to use it to 'kick ass' - from a physical perspective it was great, from a training purpose it was very interesting also. I enjoyed it - a great experience. |
maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to spend the time to learn a martial art I would prefer to learn one that's actually useful. If you just want some exercise, tennis is more fun. A dance class would be more useful as it might get you laid ;)

I am glad you posted your experience, sounds like everyone who has done it, great experience and was fun. Minds who cannot grasp the concept of training in Wushu for any other reason than fighting are limited to that way of thinking and need not reply in this thread. |

The long and the short of it is - it doesn't matter how good you are at ANY martial art, nothing is going to stop you from getting popped from 30 foot behind with a glock. It's probably better to set out learning a martial art because you've got an interest in the style, than because you want to kick ass. |
I was going to ignore his comments, but couldnt have said it any better!

If the style is interesting, the teachers and peers are cool, then that's probably all you need :) In fact, the reason I stopped was because the school I was going to got an injection of meat-heads, whose only goal was to try to smash people during sparring. I had the ability to fight them off, but I wasn't going to the school to have some dick try to break my nose every night.. |
Cut to the chase and head to China, study at the Shaolin temple. It would be the best experience of your life.

lol im sure it would be. I doubt the Abbots would enjoy me having to check email 100 times a day lol "Master, may I check my stats before we do next form?" |

Thank you again for your posts. |
No booze, no meat, tofu, wushu.....
You are as excessive being "healthy" as you were drinking. It is less self destructive but it isn't benign , shows you still have addictive personality issues. :2 cents: |

they beat you down and try to make you feel like you have a problem but really it is just a mind control issue. these are the kinds of chicks that will turn guys against their best friends from childhood because they are a "bad influence". it is pretty painful watching from the outside i have seen it happen to close people around me to many times. and they all end up unhappy because they lose what they really are and are trying to fill that void with anything possible. |

http://www.geocities.com/stenzeltaekwondo/boy.jpg Or obese Karate Instructors who's shit is to deadly for the ring or cage. What MMA did was destroy bullshit built up by McDojos, McDojangs, whatever you wanna call any MA school that is there for pure profit. The truth is in the cage, or ring. This too deadly shit is for the delusional. Fletch - Wushu is a beautiful Martial Art, it's more acrobatic then anything else, but for what I'm reading, you probably would be more happy with PaQua or Tai Chi. |

I would look up the "School of Oom Yung Doe"
They have everything from A-Z. Externally there are 8 different style combined. Internally Some of the deepest breathing techniques and meditation movements I have ever used. Those are very beneficial for life in general. |

I am looking for internal balance, not only physical but my life. Ive rid myself of excess and intoxicants, and am hoping to find more within. |

My contention is that MMA is not a representation of martial arts but rather the beginnings of a martial system (term borrowed from Donn Draeger). Having a bunch of morally and spiritually bankrupt meat heads running around claiming they are the "evolution of martial arts" is as counterproductive as McDojo's. |
