Americans - Step inside

Hypothetical question:

IF the economy doesn't get better. IF unemployment skyrockets. IF the dollar crashes or takes a serious drop in value. IF the stock market plunges further. IF oil skyrockets and gas is $5 a gallon. IF due to high gas prices, food is getting scarce on the shelves. And IF the people were finally fed up, grew a pair and took to the streets to take their country back... would you join them, or would you watch it on the news?

Fletch XXX 08-03-2009 01:29 PM

Im already an activist. Got off the sidelines over 10 years ago... LOL

DWB 08-03-2009 01:30 PM

Assuming the airports were still active and a plane could get me there, I would be on the first plane out of Asia and back to the USA, right in the middle of it.

Have you ever been civil disobedient? Stood in the face of cops over a cause?

I am of the belief if you wait until guns are needed, you waited too long. As I said, I got off the sidelines long ago, freedom comes from being civil disobedient, not watching the news or waiting until it gets violent. My entier life is based on being active and not watching, once you cross that line, theres no turning back

It was a hypothetical question fuck nut. Is that word in your vocab or did you not read the first thing in the post?

Of course they couldn't take it back per say, but they would riot in the streets, break shit, burn shit down, flip cop cars... and not take the shit anymore. Maybe it would lead to changes.

Again, it's a hypothetical question.

cherrylula 08-03-2009 04:22 PM

People in LA do that when the Lakers win, I don't think it accomplishes much...

Daruma 08-03-2009 04:43 PM

Chavez just cut off oil for Costa Rica - gas is already at $4 / gallon - $5 or more is coming soon :disgust

The problem is - it wouldn't be a civilized movement. The wackos would crash, burn and loot everything in sight...rather than attempt to make a positive change.

It wouldn't be a neat and orderly affair like the Boston Tea Party.

It would be chaos and anarchy and the military would be forced to fire on its own citizens in an attempt to enforce Marshall Law.

Would I join them? Today, no. 25 years ago - hell yeah. The difference being - as Mel Gibson put it in The Patriot - "I'm a parent...I can't afford to have principles."

pornguy 08-03-2009 06:19 PM

Its a 1500 mile drive about 3 days because of road conditions here or a HELL of a walk or swim, but yeah I would be back in the middle.

Thats then you need them the most. IMHO

AngelAfterlife 08-03-2009 08:25 PM

It's really interesting how this concept of the end of civilization and the beginning of Mad Max living is in the back of everyone's mind. It's a reckless fantasy of just saying "fuck it" and living like complete animals. We may all think about it but the reality would be far worse than we could ever imagine. I think we're moving forward just fine and we don't need an end of days to fix things

Rochard 08-03-2009 08:29 PM

Not sure if people haven't noticed, but this is recession - not the great depression of the 1930s. We didn't revolt then.

The revolution wouldn't be just because of a recession. That's why you wouldn't be out there in the middle of it because you are one of those people who doesn't even understand why there needs to be a revolution in the first place. And the people who still think this is all about Republicans vs. Democrats have no clue.

tony286 08-03-2009 08:45 PM

actually the economy is coming back. jobs are the last thing to come back in a recession. Also there will be no revolution.

The big difference between this current recession and the depression of the 30s...is back then they still had a manufacturing base to help pull them out of the depression.

Today - many of those manufacturing jobs are permanently gone, factories shut down, steel mills closing their doors. Both the U.S. and Canada are heading more towards a consumer economy rather than a strong manufacturing sector.

I think your scenario is a long time in the making. Politicians have been becoming way too ballsy and disconnected. It is only a matter of time. I don't know if we will see it in our lifetime but at some point there will only be one solution to clean up the mess that politicians have left us. They better be wearing sneakers the day the mayhem breaks out.

teh ghey 08-04-2009 12:18 AM

what "movement"?
The movement to demand that banks not lend money to people who cant afford them?
The movement that people pay their mortgages and not walk away from their homes?

NetHorse 08-04-2009 12:45 AM

I'd be at home with my guns protecting my family.

Raf1 08-04-2009 12:53 AM

let's just hope we won't have to make that decision
