camchoice 08-06-2009 10:25 AM

I gues you will like SAW then ... (but not the whole trilogy)
The first one was pretty disturbing

THE DEVONSVILLE TERROR!!!

So cheesy, but so entertaining.

Jayvis 08-06-2009 10:56 AM

The Shining

I actually thought The Strangers was pretty scary too but everyone else I talked to hated it.

ProG 08-06-2009 11:06 AM

Newer movie.. check out one called Insanitarium :)

i thought the strangers was one of the best horror movies to come out in a long time. very suspenseful, little gore, really worked on the psychological aspect instead of cheap thrills.

Jet - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-06-2009 11:24 AM

I was shitless scraed watching The Predator as a kid.

RRACY 08-06-2009 11:28 AM

Friday the 13th part deux rivals the original.

derrick1 08-06-2009 11:37 AM

The Shining still has to be my favorite...

dyna mo 08-06-2009 11:39 AM

i always thought of the shining as more of a suspense film rather than horror.

Holly 08-06-2009 11:43 AM

Jeepers Creepers, one and two.

Scott McD 08-06-2009 11:48 AM

Not quite horror but i still enjoy "The Ring"

Black Christmas (1974) Very creepy. This is one of the best horror movies.

Return of the Living Dead (1985) Easily one of the best zombie movies ever.

baddog 08-06-2009 12:08 PM

Blair Witch was pretty good. There was another I saw many years ago that I could swear was called Ghost (not the love story one).

I wish it would come on again because truth be told, it was one of the scariest movies I ever saw . . . not counting the video of my first wedding.

MaDalton 08-06-2009 12:19 PM

that's ok - i had people leaving the room and refusing to watch the rest after that scene ;)

nevertheless it's a classic, very funny and entertaining and one of the first movies that Peter Jackson ever did.

derek_gtbill 08-06-2009 12:54 PM

isnt that dead alive?

Sands 08-06-2009 12:56 PM

It is absolutely essential that you watch Evil Dead 1, 2, and 3 (Army of Darkness).

Those are really just slapstick comedies.

yes, but that title was only used in the US and only for a while. original title is "Braindead"

Matyko 08-06-2009 01:00 PM

Blair Witch Project was fine imo. Obviously only the first one, the second one is just another crappy teen-horror.
The first horror I ever saw was the Silver Bullet from Stephen King, and my all time favorite is the second Alien movie.

The Descent is awesome.

Session 9 will scare the shit out of you also.

it's funny you say that. i actually found myself laughing at quite a bit of both the horror movies i mentioned watching recently. it was comedy in a way, i thought.

almost like the movies were tongue-in-cheek

Sort of, yes. There is a progression from horror to horror/comedy as the series progresses. At any rate, I stand by my original statement and I'll throw a few more into the mix:

Re-animator
Child's Play
In the Mouth of Madness
Suspiria
Pumpkinhead

:thumbsup Hilarious but also very disturbing.

I've seen the Grudge in the cinema and some people literally started crying after getting scared the shit out of them.
Sam Raimi did one hell of a job making you uncomfortable throughout the whole movie.

And of course drag me to hell ;)

AAB 08-06-2009 11:01 PM

As far as sheer scare and creepy factors are involved, The Grudge is unbeatable in that regard. The fact that it's a Japanese movie and not a Hollywood production only makes it better, because in Asian Extreme Cinema - there are no happy endings.

John-ACWM 08-07-2009 07:54 AM

Not a big horror fan but The Shining is the best in my opinion.

Elli 08-07-2009 08:13 AM

Great suggestions in here! Most of my top picks are taken already :)

Korean movie: A Tale of Two Sisters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365376/
You like gory stuff? Audition http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235198/

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that movie! Matt did you ever see Sleepaway Camp?

Here's some of my list, I am sure I will think of 10 more after I hit submit.
May
The first Friday the 13th
Strangeland
Candyman
Carrie
The Omen

I am way more about the old school horror films. They were truly terrifying.

I'm such a horror nerd, I own the Sleepaway Camp boxset that looks like a first aid kit...

Some great suggestions in this thread...

I'd also throw in The Burning...a Friday the 13th knockoff, but a damn good flick and "the raft scene" is pure classic...

also have to go with The Eye (the original version, NOT the shitty jessica Alba remake)

I was I think 10 when I saw the Omen. I sneaked watching it at my friends house and walking home after. It was dark out and all of a sudden this shape comes bounding across the lawns right towards me! I took off running and trip in the middle of the street and slid, gave myself some really nice road rash. Rolled over still screaming and realized it was my neighbors Doberman which was the friendliest dog ever. I guess scared and in the dark with the similar coloring I thought it was the Rottweiler from the movie

The first Sleepaway Camp is one of my favorites. The Burning has some awesome gore. The raft scene is fucking nuts. :thumbsup
