Is it supposed to be collapsible?

How else is it supposed to fit as stowaway beneath your seat?

I was thinking it takes less room to park than my dresser does.

question though, why put the parish name and not the city? Fire truck says 'harvey" dept.;)

Not buying a Smart because of the unlikely chance of getting sandwiched between two trucks is real smart.

I just coped the text from a forwarded email. I honestly didn't realize it was Harvey until after I posted - I'm an East Banker.

I was surprised to read it only gets 35 mpg.

Amazingly, the driver reportedly walked away unharmed.

There was a video of a smart car being crashed at like 50 mph into a car and the driver walked away.

I was told by a Jetta owner (also diesel like the smart car) that they get 60mpg.

Both much larger cars.

Smart Cars aren't so smart, they only get about 42 mpg, just like a Corolla - and you can fit four in a Corolla.

The "barrier" crashes similar to this (you've all seem them, front impact barrier tests) only simulate a car of equal size hitting it. In this case, an object of 0 velocity; and you'd probably lose your legs in that crash.

I was lead to believe early on that the smart cars were "safe" due to these tests, but they're not the whole truth. More recent tests put a Smart car up against a mid-size or SUV -- in those crashes you're getting seriously hurt or killed.

European Union (EU) testing rates the 999 cc Smart at 4.7 L/100 km (60 mpg-imp; 50 mpg-US) for the gasoline model and 3.4 L/100 km (83 mpg-imp; 69 mpg-US) for the diesel.[citation needed] The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the vehicle at 36 mpg-US (6.5 L/100 km; 43 mpg-imp) combined.[3]

GM's Volt is being beat to market (release in 2010).

Apparently the Smart car has been dumbed down for the US. According to edmunds.com the US version of the Smart gets 36 mpg. According to the Smart's own web site you can get a much smarter Smart in the UK that gets 70mpg.
