Smart Car Wreck
Thinking of getting a smart car.........
http://www.tubeace.com/images/smart-car1.jpg Below is a photo of a wreck in Jefferson Parish, LA (near New Orleans ) between two trucks and a Smart Car. Think I?ll pass on the Smart Car. http://www.tubeace.com/images/smart-car.jpg |
Is it supposed to be collapsible?

I don't care what planet your from, thats got to hurt!
|
thats the westbank expressway overpass, the hospital i was born in is a couple blocks from there ;)
question though, why put the parish name and not the city? Fire truck says 'harvey" dept.;) |
Not buying a Smart because of the unlikely chance of getting sandwiched between two trucks is real smart.

I was surprised to read it only gets 35 mpg.

Funny opening a thread like this not expecting to see some local accident lol |
Should I even ask about what happened to the driver?
|
I'd say any car, smart or not would look the same in that situation.

As it turns out, the car may be a Ford Focus. My apology to the Smart Car folks. Please don't sue me.

Amazingly, the driver reportedly walked away unharmed.
|
There was a video of a smart car being crashed at like 50 mph into a car and the driver walked away.
|
What kind of a fag looks into buying a 'smart car' anyway?
|
Failed thread.
|
I think the go cart I had as a kid was bigger than a smart car
|
Those beast would mess up most cars.Anyways,Smart had no chance.

Ah yes, because any normal car would surely only have a mere scratch after being smashed between two massive trucks.

Any small car is dangerous.

I was told by a Jetta owner (also diesel like the smart car) that they get 60mpg. Both much larger cars. |
holy shit, bet that was fatal
|
I don't think any other car would have looked much better in that situation...
|
Smart Cars aren't so smart, they only get about 42 mpg, just like a Corolla - and you can fit four in a Corolla.

This crash looks sick.. The "barrier" crashes similar to this (you've all seem them, front impact barrier tests) only simulate a car of equal size hitting it. In this case, an object of 0 velocity; and you'd probably lose your legs in that crash. I was lead to believe early on that the smart cars were "safe" due to these tests, but they're not the whole truth. More recent tests put a Smart car up against a mid-size or SUV -- in those crashes you're getting seriously hurt or killed. |
European Union (EU) testing rates the 999 cc Smart at 4.7 L/100 km (60 mpg-imp; 50 mpg-US) for the gasoline model and 3.4 L/100 km (83 mpg-imp; 69 mpg-US) for the diesel.[citation needed] The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the vehicle at 36 mpg-US (6.5 L/100 km; 43 mpg-imp) combined.[3]
Wiki.. so dunno if this is right. Interesting regardless. Wonder what the ratings for the plug-in Prius will be when it comes out the end of this year. GM's Volt is being beat to market (release in 2010). |

not buying a smart car cause it only gets 40mpg or so.
if it was 100 or some shit, then it'd be worth it. but as it is... |
That"s why I drive a big Mercedes gas guzzler...Makes me feel safe with allot of car around me..
