Great business back then when there was almost no competition online.

and if anyone is wondering how to do it, here is the info:

http://www.archive.org/about/exclude.php

basically, all you need to do is add this to your robots.txt file, and it will also remove all records of your site at archive.org:

Code:

User-agent: ia_archiver
Disallow: /

Thanks for making me depressed. I had several projects on a burner, but when the bottom dropped out I couldn't afford to renew some quite decent domains, and they're all held by domainers who want $XX,XXX each these days.

Thanks, I have been extremely mad at myself for letting it go ever since. I was young and didn't have a credit card at the time...wasn't going to ask my parents to renew it lol.

Yeah it is funny taking a look at all of the sponsors I used to push back then. If only I hadn't of given up on adult from that point until early 2007...

Thanks for the info. Could come in handy for some folks.
But it's kind of nice to see the blast from the past after so many years.

Back then domains were very expensive to register. I lost some domains myself that way or by an error of my registar.
Cheer up & have a drink since you can't change the past. A problem is only a problem if you let your mind make it so. Let it go...

My website designer was a 17 year old back then. I had to drive to his parents house 3 times a week with floppy discs and cd's with pics so he could design stuff. His parents were aware of it. He had a hosting company too and was making more then his parents :)
Now the guy is working for Disney as a marketing genius. I should have given him a fixed position back then when he turned 18.

What program did you make your sites with then?
Frontpage, hotdog html or notepad?

Kind a cool that all retro stuff gets saved and stored.
Those days it was also easier to make a site. Nobody cared about design, just functionality.

I recall making a site with 4 well chosen pics and an ENTER button. Site ready in 2 hours incl. member area (just pic galleries).
Spam some altavista and local SE's and the site would do 5K a month no problemo.

Did you also have to re-install windows twice a month after checking galleries and got hit by virusses? I always hated that part when running a TGP.

I think that was further back - close to 1997-98 where you would end up with a dailer and a few other autoinstaller icons next to the Clock, if you loadede the wrong gallery.

The time frame is about right. 1997-1998 was when I started that TGP.
Untill my host went bankrupt and I got my servers back 3 months later from the liquidator of the hosts' company and all daily traffic was a goner. Learned back then that the cheapest hosting was not the best idea.

html only had so many tags back then, no fancy css and limited js .. thought it was cool to view source code and figure out how to build your own pages

if only i concentrated more on MONEY instead of playing around with web design
