Montrealers... Slow Down!!!

Was heading over the Galipeau bridge and got clocked doing 99, because it's a construction zone the speed limit was only 50.

Care to know what doing 49 over the limit will get ya...
$630 ticket
10 points
License suspended for 7 days

The only silver lining, I was in the passenger seat!

Going 99 on what is supposed to be a highway isn't excessive, it was early Sunday morning and we weren't racing anyone. These cops are out and busting people like mad this summer!

Driver is a noob for not seeing the cop. I'm always well over the limit but always spot the radar guys :D

We were shooting the shit on the way to the golf course, saw the cop a little too late

That's a heavy fine. What kind of car?

Kenny B! 08-11-2009 10:49 AM

A4, nothing special, it was 99km/h, thats less then 60MPH!

Here in the states, speaking of Pennsylvania in particular, seeing more speed traps and stricter enforcement of other traffic laws than in the past. And New Jersey, though I've not personally noticed much difference (cops there already seemed more numerous and aggressive on traffic enforcement than PA), is reportedly gotten worse too.

Many say the reason is the economy - and that jibes with my observations. Traffic tickets are a revenue generator, though not necessarily in the way most think...

In some states, such as Pennsylvania (most local police aren't even permitted to use radar; use timing devices instead), the revenue the police department gets from the ticket itself is often meager.

However, the big money often comes from the extra funding the department gets from the state. And for the officers, writing lots of tickets can result in better performance reviews (better raises / more advancement opportunities long-term) and more hours / overtime.

I'm not sure if this is the case in all of Canada or just Ontario, but if you were doing 50 over, immediate suspension, $2-10k fine on site. Now that is a hefty penalty!

We were doing 49 over, which seems to be a serious fine too. I think that rule is only in ontario though
