E.Banks 08-28-2009 09:37 AM

I have never even seen that place, I will have to look into that now.

Biff Malibu 08-28-2009 09:39 AM

baddog 08-28-2009 09:54 AM

Get a Go Chicago Card. Gets you in many of the sights and best part of all, you avoid the VERY long lines. Even if I used it at only one destination it was worth it to avoid the lines.

We will be ad Ad Tech on Tuesday.

Eat at Gino's East.
Eat at Portollo's. (twice, first time get hotdogs, second time get beefs).

Go the top of the cock (signature room or lounge) at the top of the Hancock Building.

The Sky Deck (top of the sears tower) is pretty cool. But it's touristy.

Go to the Lincoln Park Zoo, it's a free zoo in the middle of Lincoln Park.

Go to Wrigley Field, see a cubs game if possible.

Plenty of things to do in Chicago. Tons of great museums and great restaurants. The Cubs are playing the Mets this weekend, grab some bleacher seats from stubhub.com or outside the stadium and enjoy a few beers out in the bleachers. I enjoyed a walking food tour we did through some of the neighborhoods that ended in Lincoln Park.

Would love to move to the city one day.

PenetratinP 08-28-2009 10:36 AM

Hancock Observatory (awesome view of the city, lake & navy pier)

Navy Pier (amusement park, pubs, street performers, ferris wheel)

Magnificent Mile (shopping)

DonovanTrent 08-28-2009 10:36 AM

Agreed on Gino's East and Portillo's, I'd add I always drop into Foodlife at Water Tower Plaza. http://www.leye.com/restaurants/directory/foodlife

I think Chicago always has road projects going on so that there is a constant jam.

Gino's East is gross in my opinion, but it's a Chicago Fav. Go to Chicago Chop House, Chicago has amazing steak houses. Go to Portillo's totally, and one of the best restaurants in the country (not just according to me) www.alinearestaurant.com it's amazing.

I lived there for 10 years, def try to get over to Wrigleyville even if you can't get tix to the game - it's quite the fun fiesta, bars a plenty and great food and people. Try Sluggers, Cubbybear or Murphy's Bleachers, all been around forever and all fun fun.

I would personally avoid Water Tower and Navy Pier unless you like dealing with other tourists. If you like sushi go to Randolph Street near Greektown, Sushi Wabi is awesome. Also try Rush/Division area, Gibson's fantastic steak house and great people watching...or go to Rockit, great bar, has good food - great scene in that area.

Btw Uno's Pizza is a chain, you can get that nearly anywhere. It's good, but don't spend your time going to a chain.

Most importantly, Chicago is known for great breakfast eateries, there are a ton, but my fav is www.melicafe.com/ in Greektown. They have about 30 diff kinds of eggs benedict and pancakes, it's so good...especially if you are nursing a hangover.

Have fun - Chicago is great this time of year! GO CUBS...arrrrrgggh.

My little favs....

Las Mananitas, El Jardin mexican joints close to Wrigley.
Definnitely the "SCRUBS" ...they suck right now and Pinella has no balls. Why I still have season's tix I'll never fucking know...

Fuck Gino's for pizza. Best imo is Lou Malnati's in the burbs. Definitely Gibsons :thumbsup

Lots to do in my old home town. I'll be there celebrating my b-day next week the 1st-6th and can't fucking wait! Please, please get your weather act together Chicago. I still catch Tom Skilling every nite on WGN (yes, way off in AZ).

mynameisjim 08-28-2009 01:48 PM

The Cubs are out of it but still catch a game. Wrigley Field and the area around it is always cool before and after a game. You can hit up a place called Uncommon Ground for a bite to eat and beer, it's right on Clark. It's a good casual place that uses organic ingredients from local markets in their food, a good selection of beers and a cool staff.

The new Sears Tower skydeck is touristy but it's worth a visit. Basically a 100% glass box that sticks out 4 feet from the side of tallest building so you can look straight down. It feels pretty weird.

So many good restaurants I can't even start to list them and you don't need to spend a lot of money to eat good. There is a local show here on PBS called Check Please that has regular people review restaurants. Their site is a cool place to pick out a few spots you may want to try...

Lou Malnati's IS damn good, I'll concur. Just tougher for a tourist to find, while Gino's is easier. But hell yeah, if you can get to Lou's, go there instead.

Good talking to you. I have been to a couple chop shops in Chicago, they were okay. Now Greek town, that is another story. Great food at amazing prices.

LOU MALNATIS is so good - best pizza sauce I've ever had. You know they ship that stuff across the country. Tom Skilling - lol.

I'll be there 9/16 - 9/20 for a wedding at the new wing at the Art Institute and catching a Cubs game (even though they are flying downhill fast this season and going no where).

dicknixon 08-28-2009 07:38 PM

Lou Malnati's is pretty good . .but if you want what I think is the best pizza I've ever had . and what GQ called the best pizza in America:
Great Lake Pizza in Andersonville. (http://www.yelp.com/biz/great-lake-chicago)

If you want the best burger hands down (be prepared to wait like 45 min)
Kuma's Corner (http://www.kumascorner.com/)

If you want some sick ass mexican food:
Mixteco Grill (shitty sign, amazing mole: http://www.yelp.com/biz/mixteco-grill-chicago)

You like beer / montreal style brisket:
Hopp Leaf (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hopleaf-bar-chicago)
Best beer selection in chicago, along with some of the best food.

Best Chicago Hot Dog:
Hot Dougs (http://www.hotdougs.com/ <-- fucking crazy amazing)

Shii . . what else . . .

Best adult bar in chicago if you like to drink and think clubs are lame:
http://www.longroomchicago.com/

Hope you have fun!

It would seem appropriate. Thanks and bookmarked. I do have a question though.

Do they give you free food to post about it?

dicknixon 08-28-2009 07:59 PM

Actually we've had some free meals due to the blog, but we didn't review them. Not for any ethical reasons but more out of lack of motivation. Thanks for the bookmark!

We go to Chicago a lot (well, considering I live in LA, a lot), so is good to have something like this at my fingertips. I don't usually bookmark blogs.

You guys are crazy. Gino's > Lou's. Giordano's is better than Lou's too. Lou Malnati's is really good, the butter crust is one of kind for sure. But it's not the best by any means.

omgggg Do not go to the Shedd. It smells like urine. Always, every day, any time of year. Pure fucking urine. And it's small, you can tour the whole place (if you move fast) in like 20-30 minutes. Waste of time to breath in all that urine air.

A good thing to note though is. If you do decide to do the Shedd, or any of the museums / what haves you. Get the City Pass http://www.citypass.com/city/chicago.html
- You don't have to wait in line at any of the places. It's the shit. Skipping in line is a big deal with the shedd, sky deck, and sometimes the Field. Crazy long lines.

Phil21 08-29-2009 12:01 AM

Lou's definitely, imo. exchequer also has decent pizza, and hasn't been mentioned yet. You can't really go wrong with any of those listed - although Giordano's I would put on a slightly lower level than the rest.

My personal favorite is Heaven on 7 though. Mmm. The Jalapeno muffin is a must-get, and I usually get the chicken voodoo rigatoni. Not exactly "Chicago" though :)

Phil21 08-29-2009 12:04 AM

Oh.. and Greek I recommend Greek Islands - pretty damned good.

Reza's is a nice option for mid-eastern food as well.

DAMN good call...weiner circle is the best, if you don't order right the cooks tell you to fuck off..it's great, you have to no how to order, rudest staff ever but it's so funny when you are drunk. Best cheese fries EVER. Open until 7am. Wait...some of the bars are too. LOL.
