Is the word "puta" mainstream in the USA?

I was considering starting a latina site but using the word "puta" in the domain instead of "latina"...

A lot of people are telling me that "puta" sounds weird and a lot of people won't know what it is. I guess living in a latin country I'm bias and I forget exactly what is common language and what is not.

Thoughts?

People in California, New Mexico and Florida will probably get it but I don't think you'll be attracting many members from, say, Alabama or Arkansas :upsidedow

bloggingseo 09-01-2009 09:15 AM

Pretty much everyone in Texas knows what a puta is.

Vendzilla 09-01-2009 09:16 AM

Good name for a whore house!

Yo Adrian 09-01-2009 09:18 AM

would work great for a site translated into spanish, because I doubt most of the country is used to hearing that

starpimps 09-01-2009 09:18 AM

fuzebox is a puta :)

that term isnt really common with the folk around where i live

MaDalton 09-01-2009 09:30 AM

i understand it as an insult - like whore - correct?

Correct, it will be a niche paysite starring latin girls, I am hoping that nichelatinas.com is interchangeable with nicheputas.com

Varius 09-01-2009 09:38 AM

My opinion as given to ya on ICQ is go with the putas one.

Neither one will garner much SE or type-ins, so that's a moot point.

The putas one rolls off the tongue easier, is more brandable and may even attract "curious clicks" where people who don't know what a puta is click to find out.

todhunter 09-01-2009 09:38 AM

I wouldn't. Learning curve is too high.

Not impossible -- "Amazon" didn't used to be associated with books -- but not sure it's worth the try.

i think people may know it as a word, but within a domain it may be even harder to identify depending on what is put before and after it.

potter 09-01-2009 09:40 AM

I would say most of the country knows what it is. The regions that don't are going to be the ones isolated from civilization. In states like Nebraska, not around the big cities - out in the smaller no name towns.

TubeTitans_SusieQ 09-01-2009 09:41 AM

never heard of it but interesting...

czarina 09-01-2009 09:43 AM

in areas with lots of latins everybody knows what puta means, but ask someone in Kentucky or Iowa and they'll have no idea.

kowalsky 09-01-2009 09:44 AM

puta de mierda!

Webmistress - Doreen 09-01-2009 10:07 AM

puta in Tagalog means whore/bitch

themadwriter 09-01-2009 10:14 AM

sounds good to me

boneless 09-01-2009 10:21 AM

puta madre

where im from (netherlands) only a few know what it means, but over here in Spain its a common word ;)

RayBonga 09-01-2009 10:31 AM

you'll probably get more portuguese speaking traffic than spanish/US.

people in Brazil will do searches or have porn with puta or putinha in the title but in spanish you use it more (even if the literal translation is still whore/prostitute), spanish people will use puta madre, etc. in informal non sexual contexts all the time

GrouchyAdmin 09-01-2009 10:31 AM

It's pretty common, but I'm in Mexiville/Methville.

tonyparra 09-01-2009 10:38 AM

i think bad idea but who the fuck am i lol

It's "PUTO" male tense, remember spanish has female and male versions of a word.

Puto translates to gigolo.

I can take your traffic with the word puta all day long. I have a home for it hit me up.

cherrylula 09-27-2011 11:14 AM

from So Cal... yep know the word quite well lol

I think it would work.

ajrocks 09-27-2011 01:34 PM

Is that like can I puta cock in your ass?

epitome 09-27-2011 01:39 PM

There are people like me that always thought it was punta, so don't expect as many type-ins if they try to remember the site name.

Hell I used to be the only white guy in a Hispanic neighborhood and never knew better until this thread.

harvey 09-27-2011 01:42 PM

to be honest, every time I see the word whore or puta I lose interest. Why would I bother in seeing a cheap whore? I'd rather see hot girls, but maybe that's just me :2 cents:

slapass 09-27-2011 01:44 PM

MN people would have no idea.

Sunny Day 09-27-2011 01:58 PM

Dumb Me

1st time I heard of the restaurant chain Chi-Chi's, I had no clue. It was a year are two before someone told me what it meant.

scouser 09-27-2011 02:09 PM

no idea what it means

Deej 09-27-2011 02:11 PM

pinocha!

BlackCrayon 09-27-2011 02:32 PM

I knew there's no-one cuter, then she said she was a puta
I said "What does puta mean?" Hmm and so she told me...

SexSearchSuzanne 09-27-2011 02:41 PM

I don't think most Canadians would know what it means, but if they are from or into that culture they might. It might work out for you for keyword ranking on "puta" versus the more common terms.

SpicyM 09-27-2011 03:06 PM

The retard bumped an old thread from 2009

fuzebox 09-27-2011 03:12 PM

Argos88 09-27-2011 03:36 PM

Most US people (non-latin) know what Hijo de Puta means... I can definitely say this as a fact, because every time I lose in some online game to US guys I say Hijo de Puta and they understand what I say, hehehe... even some non-latin European understand it.
