Jay Leno.... 18 Million Viewers last night...

Tbh the show is the same exact shit as when he was on the Tonight Show....

I like him but it seems they just gave it a name change and shifted slots

Jay Leno opened big in prime time, drawing 17.7 million viewers and easily winning every demographic race. Of course, with Jerry Seinfeld and Kanye West as guests, millions of dollars spent on hype and light competition, it would've been hard for "The Jay Leno Show" not to score a big audience on his first night at 10.

Curiosity no doubt played a huge factor, as evidenced by the show's first half-hour, which drew just over 18 million viewers -- in the second half-hour, nearly a million viewers jumped ship. Leno also had a strong ?America?s Got Talent? lead-in that averaged almost 15 million viewers.

One night's numbers does not a story make and while the early results will have NBC brass smiling and spinning (after all, Leno's numbers more than doubled what NBC averaged in the 10-11 p.m. hour last season), keep in mind that other than football on ESPN, the rest of the industry pretty much gave Leno a pass on Day 1.

The real challenge will be in the days and weeks ahead when he is squaring off against original programming and the novelty of a prime-time talk/variety show starts to fade. Once the viewers vote, it will be up to the bean counters at NBC to determine whether the bet pays off financially.

From a critical standpoint, little has changed for Leno from his days at 11:30 p.m. The critics who weren't fans of his then, obviously didn't suddenly become fans just because he is on 90 minutes earlier. At the same time, viewers who like Leno don't really care that he isn't the critics' choice. The good news for NBC is that there are more viewers around at 10 p.m. than there are at 11:30 p.m.

Leno's strong start no doubt also gave Conan O'Brien a late-night boost, although more detailed ratings information on late night won't be available until later today.

In Los Angeles, Leno delivered a 10.2 rating and 18 share on KNBC, crushing the competition and providing a huge lead-in for the station's 11 p.m. newscast, which scored a 7.1 rating and 16 share. That easily beat KABC, which usually dominates late news.

I checked it out. He put the milk at the back of the store by putting headlines at the end of the show. I used to always flip to him for headlines then back to Letterman. So someone in marketing was smart I guess. All in all, not bad for a premiere, but certainly not a normal typical night to judge by.

i dunno, i think the show is going to flop. from what I heard, it wasn't that good

Fletch XXX 09-15-2009 09:15 AM

The Cheaters parody in the beginning was funny.

I think it's weak that he was given a prime time spot ahead of Conan.. how many talk shows can one network have?? I give him 2 seasons.. interest will fizzle out at the end of this season and they'll give him the next just to see if they can revive, which they won't. All the old timers are hanging onto him only because they're used to him.. the originality and youth of Conan & Fallon will prove more popular.

I think a lot of people will tune in this week. Yesterday especially because of the guests. I watched it and thought it was okay. Let's see how well he does in a couple of weeks when he is going up against first run prime time shows that are very popular. Right now he is just competing against re-runs.

I think he will have an audience, but I don't think it will be all that big.

Rumor is there's a good reason NBC gave Jay this slot. Supposedly they're making preparations for if Conan bombs since Conan's ratings haven't been doing too well since he took over The Tonight Show. The thinking is that NBC is keeping Jay around so they can give him The Tonight Show back if they decide to push Conan back to his old 12:35 slot.

Who knows? Would make sense to me.

It wasn't impressive for me. I'm not going to make the time to watch the show on a regular baisis.

Not a fan of Leno, kinda pissed he took away the 10pm timeslot for shows that could actually be good...

Kanye West = Genius

JP-pornshooter 09-15-2009 03:11 PM

he is a great stand up comedian, have seen his show several times in hermosa beach comedy club, he actually talks dirtier than most which quite the contrast to his very squeaky network appearance..
i didnt care for this 10 pm show, dont like oprah at all, jerry was very funny though and he made a lot of fun of the fact jay is back, just different time slot... i think he will have a real hard time against shows like CSI unless they really change format.
i dont like conan but his show is actually pretty good, better than jay used to be..

Gee.. I wonder if months of relentless advertising about the "New Jay Leno" show had anything to do with it..

Who cares about Day 1 numbers anyways.... like they said... in the next week or two is where we will see if he has a chance of keeping share.

Leno is lame - about half as many people will be watching within a week or two if that.
