If your FTP set-up prevents it from being automatic, around $30 is a fairly common price for one manual upgrade, with just a few bucks additional for each additional install. Many hosts will do it for free (You probably got that from this thread already.), although I prefer to hit my host up just on the hard stuff. You might just tell your host you want to do the automatic upgrades on WordPress and ask if they can set your FTP for that domain to allow you to do so. Upgrading WordPress is much much much easier now than it was in earlier version though, so you may want to take another stab at doing it yourself. Hope this helps.

Only if he has a managed server.

If the host allows WP, why would the host care if it's managed or not?

That would be a pretty crappy host to force a novice person to setup code on a shared box.

Sounds about right, everyone else who says that it's worth $5 or free, obviously has never had a nightmare wordpress upgrade... it's pretty rare, but it's possible for the db to get corrupted in the upgrade, there could be a plug in incompatibility or some other fuckup... if you hire the $5 guy, and something goes wrong, it's likely your blog will not only be down for hours, but could also cost you an arm and a leg to repair... :2 cents:

seriously though, if you can't even upgrade wordpress on your own, you're in the wrong field

Yeah, because the $20/mo they pay for shared hosting more than pays for the host's time, even if it is basically just ncftpput, upgrade.

I'm sure this question above involves MAJOR REVISION CHANGES between WordPress. If this involves making/changing plugins from 1.5.x to 2.7.$TODAY, $250 isn't that bad - if it's just for a simple minor upgrade/bump, that's highway robbery.

To add or upgrade WP takes longer to upload than it does to install and setup. If it's already on my box, it takes 3 minutes to setup, less than 1 minute to upgrade old WP copies, now it's seconds.

Heck, you can find youtube videos that are less than 10 minutes long that walk you through the entire setup, setting up the db, admin, and setting up plugins.

You can go setup a blogger account, get a domain for free if you move it over to a host, then change it out with a WP blog, and you don't spend a dime. That's how simple it is.

inkognito 09-18-2009 12:17 PM

I will do for 299$ ;) just hit me

kowalsky 09-18-2009 12:20 PM

Only if you buy CyberSEO Suite with it :winkwink:

katesfan 09-18-2009 01:50 PM

from which version to which one ?

Badmaash 09-18-2009 03:44 PM

Bump to help Mr Too Gay AKA Teh Ghey with his wordpress install

My two pence are that you back up what you have, WP files using ftp and the DB using phpMyadmin and then try and do the upgrade yourself.... if i goes wrong then you got the back ups.

Ciao

Horny Joe 09-18-2009 04:07 PM

one-click nowadays..

BSleazy 09-18-2009 04:40 PM

I do them for $5.

CYF 09-18-2009 04:40 PM

Because managed means "we will watch your server" and your paying for the privilege. They will charge you an incident fee if you are running unmanaged servers. :2 cents:

Argos88 09-18-2009 05:36 PM

lol.. charging that for something that can be done with one click and takes just 5 secs...

That was what I was thinking. 1.5 to 2.8 or something. With all the plugins a person can have and they may have other customizations. 1.5 is not a just click to upgrade version of wordpress. It is nice to see GFY still has a ton of Newbies that don't think before they make smart ass comments.

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-18-2009 06:23 PM

I will pay you $50 if you give me the honors of upgrading your wordpress!

fris 09-18-2009 06:33 PM

way too high, i wouldnt even bother with upgrades myself because its too low of a job to be worth while
