Anyone here who has mainstream sites?

I have a few of them and I'd like to do more but it seems much harder to find good traffic sources. I can find hundreds of adult traffic sources for one mainstream source that doesn't require that you pay them to list you. How do you generate your traffic?

Depends on your site. I have some event ticket sites that I generate traffic for by Craigslist. Then I have a community news site, I get traffic for it by link trades with real estate agents or local business sites. One of the keys for a mainstream site is SEO traffic. It is a bit harder, there is no mainstream TGP..LOL!

Google, Yahoo and Bing [I guess] are pretty good traffic sources. That is who we use.

:2 cents:

Also, to maximize traffic, build networks of differing sites for each niche you're trying to hit.

social media ads are working for some sites

You can write articles and submit them to depository directories which usually credit you with a link back to your site.

if you can't find places to drop mainstream links, you aren't looking. there are 1000x more options in mainstream for link building.

Thanks for the lead. Adult or mainstream or both? What kind of traffic does it bring in and how good is the traffic? How much does it cost?

Comment on blogs, yahoo answers, amazon, google friend connect, write/submit articles, create videos on youtube/mega and interact/vote, etc, setup auto responders and mail people, use feeds, directories, niched forums, for the for engines, wiki's, link drops, exchanges, blackhat methods, general social bookmarks, write free ebooks and submit them ebook engines... then use your social media, interact, chat, exchange, share, comment, focus on the tools, move the people to your main sites / lists, get people to follow you from multiple points at once, build information products, give away free information, write blogs, write for others, interview blog posts for others, webmaster radio shows, google/yahoo, etc groups, online music stations, video response sites, seminars, submit tutorials or spam.

They accept adult sites and there are a couple listed on there, but it is by far mainly mainstream. They have a lot of different services on there, but the one I prefer is called "blogpost" With this service you write an outline of a blog posting that you want written with a certain number of keyworks linking to your site. You can then select blog owners and ask them to write a posting based on your outline. There is typically a one time fee for this that starts around $6. The blog posting must stay up for 1 year and linkworth will spider the blog for you to make sure the owner is not cheating.

The traffic comes more from search engines who see the backlinks from a blog on a topic similiar to your site than the blogs themselves (of course you'll get some traffic from the blogs).

They also sell hard links which you pay monthly for. The blogs seem like a much better deal to me.
