If I had the money I would do this

I would love to do an internet treasure search

It would work like this

You would need a couple of thousand sites to get involved with it

People would pay say $2.00 to enter it and there would be a cash prize at the end

You would send people to diff websites to look for clues hidden within text, pictures, movies ect.. which would then send them to the next website for the next clue

This would bring UV to the sites taking part and they would have to read the content on the sites to get the clues so in effect it would be like selling traffic to them

It would have to be pretty well publicised to get a lot of people involed in the treasure hunt

At the end there could be a secret word ..code or something which would determine the winner

Just an idea I had and would love to try something like this out

Poker Run of sort >>>>>start it on a well established blog and see how it works do a trail run for free to see if you get any traffic, I used to use entrecard.com and had great success with non- adult sites driving un wanted traffic, who only came for the card But good luck sounds good. Keep us posted

Which charity do the proceeds goto?

There was a game I played online several years ago that was kind of like this. You started the game and it was as if you were an employee of the company. Then top secret CIA stuff started happening, but the bad guys didn't know about you because you were new. So people would email you or IM you clues and you had to go to different sites and figure out the cluse to advance the game. They would sometimes call you with clues. One night they called me at about 4am with some information. Scared the hell out of me.

The game ended up not going very far because they released it in "chapters" once you got through the chapter you had to wait until the next month to get the next chapter. If you finished it all in 1-2 days you waited 28 days to play more. It was kind of cool though and was a form of an internet treasure hunt.

good luck though if you try this out.

It would be for profit if you could get enough people to play globally plus you could also sell the traffic/players to the websites taking part. or get them to pay a small fee to be part of the treasure hunt. All they would have to do is put the code, text or media on their sites to send to the next site.

You could run it like a lottery players pay their $1.00 or whatever then have a start date for the treasure hunt to take place once a week or something

If their are no winners then the cash prize could roll over to the next week People play games like this if their is money to be won just like the lottery but this could be a global lottery kinda thing

I like the idea! I just think it would be very hard to get a lot of different website owners to implement a piece of code on their website. It would ave to be extremely controlled, like an encoded script for each site, so that no one could fiddle with it. Otherwise every smart webmaster would only put it up there for the first day or so for review purpoes, then take it down and keep all the visitors coming in to play on their own site, by having then endlessly looking for a clue.

About global lottery, in a way you could say that the American Lottery or the New York Lottery are kind of global, they both have players from all overt he world. Mostly from Europe and Japan though.

I've seen people doing GPS treasure hunts, seems like they send people to locations like parks and beaches. I like your idea, halfpint. Cool way to drum up traffic and business for participating sites.

good luck to you on this

I'm pretty sure I saw this on a social networking site a while back. Not sure if they actually kicked it off or not.

charge the site owners not the players.

play for free = millions more players.

millions of players = great traffic = site owners will pay.

(tech side - ya simple embed code for site owner - controlled by main server)

sounds like your idea would be a lot simpler and easier to do, but still a big project.

Its been done, it was 1996-1997, MSN did it. They gave away a truck. You could either find the clues online at specific sites or choose the real world option and go hunt them down. I went to Boston to find Garcia Street, it was a blast. At the end you had to go to a bunch of websites collect the clues them map it out, when you had it all mapped out it was a phone number, who ever called first got the truck.
