I tried one last summer. It was utterly amazing. One of the really expensive ones, as well. It took off like a rocket when I started kicking the pedals. Great experience and probably something I would've considered weren't it for the fact that I like to bike to exercise.

I prefer my Monte Carlo.

Yeah, I've guys riding half-bycicle / half-motorcycle, closer to moped vehicles of some kind.

I think it's a great idea. While mopeds or scooters are super fuel efficient compared to a car, they still require fossil fuel and still require exhausting it right where we all live. And while it's not sexy to talk about it, vehicle exhaust is millions of times more carcinogenic and dirty than second hand smoke will ever be. So, better to eliminate that entirely. I'd call it a win.

Plus you get some exercise! I think it is like a whole new generation of the moped, which no one ever used for exercise anyway. I think you just peddled them for a second to start them.

These new electric bikes seem to provide the best of all worlds - exercise, assistance for those who need it (like going uphill while being out of shape), fuel economy by using clean electricity, lighter weight than a motored vehicle, etc.

I haven't tried one out yet, but they definitely look interesting. I would imagine the prices will drop, and the technology will improve, as long as they gain in popularity.
