Hey JCK - we were experiencing a network outage in LA however we are back up and running.

Feel free to hit me up directly should you need any assistance.

kush 01-20-2010 01:19 PM

When nameservers are down... does that mean all sites that use moniker as their registrar won't load? Someone clue me in...

PSD 01-20-2010 01:22 PM

Thanks for the reply Bari, unfortunately your nameservers are still returning a timeout error from some places at least...

I had been registering domains when their DNS went down (or whatever it was). I have been unable to connect to Moniker.com for like the past hour, haven't checked any further into it than that.

If you are using Monikers nameservers yes. Registrars should geographically separate them so if one goes down the others will still work, I don't think Moniker does this. Also Moniker uses the same nameservers for their own site as they do for their cutomers who use their DNS so you can't go to their site to edit them once there are problems.

That does not sound like the ideal setup. :Oh crap

webair 01-20-2010 01:36 PM

Nicky 01-20-2010 01:46 PM

Your right shit does ocassoinally happen, that of course is the reasoning for using nameservers in different regions/networks/datacenters :2 cents:

Hey Bari I'm not trying to stir up any trouble because I do use Moniker and plan to use ya'll more in the future... but can you comment on this please? I could use some peace of mind here. Thanks!

For anyone interested, here is a better link to test the nameservers of any domain ...

Bump for answers. :disgust

I'm sorry for the inconvenience everyone....We are experiencing a network outage in LA. At this time, I unfortunately don't have an ETA on when we'll be back up/running however it should be soon!

Thanks for your patience!

Klen 01-20-2010 03:01 PM

I checked with host tracker domain and it seems it is loading on 8 places from 45 probed locations.

fatfoo 01-20-2010 03:12 PM

That sucks for Moniker.

"shit happens"

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

so funny coming from a certain host

jwaltz666 01-20-2010 03:34 PM

setup some geographically diverse ns's!

RummyBoy 01-20-2010 04:22 PM

Quite a few issues with moniker over the last few months, maybe try utilising your nameservers rather than using their own NS forwarding.

Klen 01-20-2010 04:31 PM

It works now but slow as hell.

lazycash 01-20-2010 04:58 PM

I have no idea why people are still using Moniker, in two years they've gone from the best to the worst registrar, and yet I still see them being recommended around here.

Unfortunately, that's a problem a lot of registrars have.

Nikki_Licks 01-21-2010 07:35 AM

Working fine for me ATM.

Same can happen on hosting companies too, which is why i think it's stupid to rely on external dns server where you dont have control.

jrzeygirl 01-21-2010 09:13 AM

Hey all?.. I wanted to circle back and update you on the latest news. It turns out that Moniker was hit yesterday with a DOS attack from China. It has been corrected however due to the fact Asia is where the DOS was originated from, we have blocked specific blocks of IP addresses.

To correct this, please log into your Moniker account and create a help ticket under Moniker Support Center. Provide all of the IP addresses involved and we can/will remove them from the list.

Once again I do apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience. If anyone needs my personal assistance, please contact me directly at [email protected] as I?m not always monitoring the board.

Thanks!

I stand by Moniker.com - they are my number 1 choice for domain registration as well as domain escrow services. Have used them for numerous transactions with out flaws.
Down time happens once every so often....the joys of technology. hehehe

Oh and Bari is a hottie and I'm saying that as a straight chick. LOL
