The Census and I regularly get the same stupid thing from the IRS on occasion as well.

I'm confused about the census. They sent me a packet last year and I did an interview with some guy over the phone. Do they stagger it over several years?

Ha. Just mailed in the state census when the U.S. census mailed me a warning saying they'll be sending their census next week.

They said it cost one million dollars to mail out the letters stating that the stimulus checks will be coming later. I assume this cost the same. I got it and was thinking "cool the census is here" nope just wasting more money.. killing trees.. filling landfills

Well many people, especially in rural small towns, don't fill out the census because of being anti-government. So maybe warning people and telling them why it's important is the reason. They actually have to send out field workers to these homes when they don't mail it in and they get shot at and dogs sent after them. They don't realize the census benefits them. if there's a natural disaster and your town needs aid, the money the town gets depends on how many people live there.

i thought the thing i got last week was the census. i didnt bother opening it, went in the shredder. then i get it today. btw, i still havent got around to doing my taxes. Note to self: time for a sticky note "do taxes dumbass"

Yep, Darrah. That is why they mail the pre-census mailers. Because they've studied it and found that it's cheaper to do that than it is to pay humans to go door to door asking people to mail it in, or give them the number of people in their homes live and in person.

I bet the study that demonstrated that savings cost taxpayers at least several dollars.

I guess some studies could be proposed to determine if it actually is cheaper... and the cycle is reborn, lol.
